Frederick Knott's psychological thriller Wait Until Dark first premiered on Broadway in 1966 with Lee Remick in the title role and was later turned into a film with Audrey Hepburn. The latest adaptation of the play at the Geffen is by Jeffrey Hatcher, who has moved the action from the 60s to the 40s. The concept has piqued a lot of interest, but upon seeing the finished product, the whole business seems curious.

BWW Reviews: Theatre Harrisburg's WAIT UNTIL DARK at the Krevsky Center
by Marakay Rogers - Mar 18, 2013

Although the first act feels just a bit slow in its development, and one or two of the cast take a few moments to warm into their roles as one watches, it is certainly not unsatisfactory. But it is the second act of WAIT UNTIL DARK that is what the audience is there for, especially for the ending. And the second act does not disappoint.

Larry Josephson Set for Cornelia Street Cafe, 1/23
by BWW News Desk - Jan 23, 2012

Larry Josephson has been making trouble on the radio since 1966, starting as WBAI's infamous grumpy morning man. The competition, John Gambling and his ilk, were pushing oleaginous treacle on morning radio. Larry broke all the rules of radio: he ate his breakfast on the air, insulted listeners at a time when Howard Stern was crawling around Levittown in leather diapers. He told the story of his life on the radio, or as much as the FCC and the libel laws would allow.

A Fine Wait Until Dark Plays Group rep
by Don Grigware - Apr 5, 2011

Frederick Knott's psychological thriller Wait Until Dark first premiered on Broadway in 1966 with Lee Remick in the title role and was later turned into a film with Audrey Hepburn. As I watched the play opening night at Group rep, I couldn't help but wonder how much better the play might be if the whole first scene with the conmen were eliminated completely. So much exposition with setting up the scheme is draggy, tedious. If audience were to learn about what is happening through Susy Hendrix (Liza de Weerd) at the same time she's figuring it out, the play might be ultimately more gripping. Not that it isn't already suspenseful! As is it's the non-seeing central character and her ultra-sensory world that engage and her solitary dilemma from moment to moment that keeps us on the edge of our seats. Above all, Miss de Weerd's sensational commitment under David Colwell's taut direction makes it all the more fascinating to experience.
