A new production of Bizet's LES PÊCHEURS DE PERLES (The Pearl Fishers), a rarity by the composer of Carmen that has not been seen at the Met in nearly a century, opens in a new production this New Year's Eve.

Artistic director Shane Howard will bring together some of Australia and Ireland's finest artists and musicians including Paul Kelly (AUS), Declan O'Rourke (IRE), Pauline Scanlon (IRE), Sean Tyrrell (IRE), John Spillane (IRE), Leah Flanagan (AUS), Steve Cooney (IRE), Aine Tyrell (AUS/IRE) and Lynnelle Moran (AUS) to present the newly created Exile: Songs & Tales of Irish Australia, a vibrant tapestry of stories, imagery and music celebrating the rich Irish influence in this country.

The New School's College of Performing Arts is pleased to announce that the acclaimed Mannes Opera Young Artists, led by Artistic Director Joseph Colaneri, will give two fully-staged performances of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore with the Mannes Orchestra. Performances will take place December 11 at 7:30 pm and & December 12 at 1:30 pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59th Street, New York). Admission is $25, $10 for students/seniors, and can be purchased through ticketcentral.com.

The Everyman & Playhouse's 2016 spring season will feature love, loyalty, betrayal, oppression, transcendence, motherhood, brotherhood, tragedy and comedy. Gemma Bodinetz will direct a new adaptation of Madame Bovary with Peepolykus at the Everyman, while at the Playhouse there will be a major revival of Frank McGuinness's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme. There are also partnerships with National Theatre of Scotland and Told By An Idiot on I Am Thomas, and DaDaFest and Turf Love for Unsung, a new production about Liverpool radical Edward Rushton.

Today we are talking to a spectacularly accomplished Broadway leading man with a considerable TV and film resume who plays a prominent role in the new Encores! production of John Kander & Fred Ebb's Tony Award-winning musical ZORBA coming up next month, the thoughtful Santino Fontana. Bernard Haitink will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct two weeks of performances highlighting works by Austrian composers - Berg, Webern, and Mahler - and Beethoven, who spent much of his career in Austria. In the first program, Mr. Haitink will conduct Webern's Im Sommerwind, Berg's Violin Concerto with Leonidas Kavakos, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica, tonight, May 8, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. Bernard Haitink's appearances are part of an international, season-wide celebration of the 60th anniversary of his conducting debut with the Netherlands Radio Union Orchestra (now the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra) and his 85th birthday.

The internationally-acclaimed Pacific Chorale in Orange County, CA will be presenting a new work created by American opera composer Jake Heggie, and the versatile librettist Gene Scheer entitled 'THE RADIO HOUR'. The choral opera will be conducted by Pacific Chorale's Artistic Director, John Alexander, and stage-directed by James R. Taulli. The premiere work will be performed by the organization's chamber choir, The John Alexander Singers, accompanied by an 8-member ensemble of musicians who are members of Pacific Symphony. Celebrating the 450th anniversary of his birth, the performance will take place on Thursday, 7 November 2013 at the Renaissance Library of the Fabbri Mansion located on 7 East 95th Street. The Library, built during the Renaissance as part of the Ducal Palace of Urbino in Italy, was brought to New York during WWI.
