Approximately 330 miles…That's how far Havana, Cuba is from Miami, Florida. Within that space lies a distance of less than an hour. However, to some people it might as well be a lifetime away. I remember all my childhood being told about what Cuba used to be by my grandparents. As a third generation Cuban American living in Miami, Florida, as soon as we start to crawl, you are hearing about the good ole days before Fidel Castro stole Cuba from the people - people who still long for home. So I was thrilled to research into AMPARO. This one of a kind immersive theater experience is based on the compelling, true story of an immigrant family's triumph through exile. From present-day Miami to 1957-Cuba, where you will follow cast members through the Cuban Revolution, bearing witness to the story of the Arechabala family--founders of THE REAL HAVANA CLUB rum.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago's upcoming Summer Series program will feature highlights from the company's recent repertoire, including work by acclaimed choreographers Brian Brooks, Resident Choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo and Crystal Pite. The program will premiere at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park (205 East Randolph Street) on Thursday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m., followed by performances Saturday, June 8 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 9 at 3 p.m. Tickets are now on sale.

Amidst a setting of ancient times, Nabucco-king of Babylon-conquers the Hebrews, destroys their holy temple of Solomon and takes them into captivity. Meanwhile, his daughters Fenena and Abigaille both yearn for the forbidden affection of the Israelite Ismael. Her love unrequited, Abigaille is obsessed with vengeance. In the ultimate act of hubris, Nabucco declares that he is God and is struck mad by a thunderbolt. Will he regain his reason, repent, and return the Jews to their homeland?

Casting has been announced for Rosenbaum's Rescue, the World Premiere play exploring the true story of how over 7,000 Danish Jews managed to escape the Nazi occupation in 1943. Starring Olivier Award-winner David Bamber, Neil McCaul, Dorothea Myer-Bennett and Julia Swift, the production unearths new accounts behind one of history's most compelling mysteries. Sarasota Opera has been awarded a $50,000 Arts Appreciation Grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The grant offers unrestricted funding to area arts organizations in support of their artistic mission. This year's Arts Appreciation Grant will help support Sarasota Opera's 2018/2019 Season, which marks the company's 60th year of presenting world-class opera on the Southwest Florida Gulf Coast.
