Today Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman issued a joint proclamation declaring September 21, 2012, Christopher Hampton Day in both cities. The announcement comes on the same day as the opening of Hampton's Tales from Hollywood on the Wurtele Thrust Stage at the Guthrie, the beginning of the Guthrie's celebration of Hampton's work and the first show of its 50th season.

In response to the CPS teachers' strike, Court Theatre is offering a special free performance of August Wilson's Jitney, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson, for any CPS student (and one parent/guardian) with a valid CPS ID. This free matinee will be Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:30am at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue. There is no need to RSVP, simply present a valid CPS ID at the theatre.

REBECCA, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel, has found its male and female leads: Jill Paice will play the role of "I" and Ryan Silverman the role of "Maxim de Winter." REBECCA will open on Broadway Sunday, November 18 at The Broadhurst Theatre. Previews will begin Tuesday, October 30.

Court Theatre today announced its 2012/13 season under the continuing leadership of Artistic Director Charles Newell, Executive Director Stephen J. Albert, Board Chair Virginia Gerst and Deputy Provost of the Arts Larry Norman. The company's 58th season will feature August Wilson's Jitney, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson; a reimagining of James Joyce's The Deaddirected by Artistic Director Charles Newell with Musical Direction by Doug Peck; David Hare's Skylight directed by William Brown in his Court Theatre debut; and University of Chicago alumnus David Auburn's Proof, also directed by Charles Newell. Newell will close the season by returning to the world of French Baroque with Moliere's The Misanthrope, followed by Tartuffe.

Director Joe Dowling today announced the three plays that will comprise the Guthrie's 2012 celebration of prolific British playwright, screenwriter and director Christopher Hampton. A Guthrie commission of Appomattox, a new play based upon Hampton's original 2007 opera collaboration with composer Philip Glass, will be joined by Tales from Hollywood and Total Eclipse.

Producers Lee Dean, Laurence Myers and Joey Parnes announced today that the complete cast of the Broadway premiere of End of the Rainbow, a new play with music, is in place. Michael Cumpsty, Tom Pelphrey and Jay Russell will join two-time Oliver Award-winner Tracie Bennett in Peter Quilter's acclaimed play about the legendary Judy Garland. Directed by the Tony® Award winning Terry Johnson, End of the Rainbow will begin performances on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Belasco Theatre, with an opening night now set for Monday, April 2.

Previews will begin Tuesday, March 27. Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid, Love Never Dies, Master Class and as Christine in last month's 25th Anniversary Concert of The Phantom of the Opera in London) will play the lead role of 'I'. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Manhattan Theatre Club has just announced that Tony and Emmy Award winner Cynthia Nixon will return to MTC to star in the Broadway premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play WIT by Margaret Edson, directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow. Goodman Theatre Artistic Director RoRobert Falls announced today that he will direct bert Falls The Iceman Cometh, Eugene O'Neill's epic portrait of hope and disillusionment, running April 22 - June 10, 2012 in the Albert Theatre. Falls' major revival features Tony Award-winning stage and screen stars Nathan Lane Nathan Lane as hardware salesman and pipe dreambuster Theodore 'Hickey' Hickman, and Brian Dennehy Brian Dennehy as one-time syndicalist-anarchist Larry Slade. Hailed by The New York Times as a 'ferocious American classic that has lost none of its power,' The Iceman Cometh marked Falls' and Dennehy's first O'Neill collaboration at the Goodman in 1990-a production which featured Dennehy in the role of Hickey.

The Guthrie Theater will kick off its 50th anniversary season with a three-play celebration of prolific British playwright and screenwriter Christopher Hampton, whose adaptation of Yasmina Reza's Tony Award-winning comedy God of Carnage is playing on the Theater's McGuire Proscenium Stage through August 7, 2011. A Guthrie commission of Appomattox, a new play based on his original 2007 opera collaboration with composer Philip Glass, will be presented in the fall of 2012 alongside two of Hampton's other works, the titles of which will be announced at a later date.
