PITTSBURGH, PA (July 6, 2015) — The world premiere A NEW KIND OF FALLOUT is showcased in Opera Theater of Pittsburgh's fourth SummerFest season. Inspired by environmentalist Rachel Carson (a native of Springdale, Pa.), the new opera features music by acclaimed New York-based composer Gilda Lyons and a libretto by award-winning Pittsburgh playwright Tammy Ryan. 

Today we salute a Broadway and Hollywood star just announced to be making her return to Broadway later this year in WICKED.

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS, the provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel about spiritual warfare from a demon's point of view, comes to Providence for one performances only.  The production will appear at The VETS on October 28, 2015 at 8:00pm. Nimbus Dance Works will take the stage with three performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Fishman Space at the Fisher Building tonight, May 8 at 8 PM and tomorrow, May 9 at 2 and 8 PM. Marking 10 years of producing its own brand of impactful dance, Nimbus will present the world premieres of two works at BAM.

Desert Theatreworks, a nonprofit theatre company in Palm Desert, has served up a delectable production of Neil Simon's LOST IN YONKERS, at the Joslyn Center's Arthur Newman Theatre. On Wednesday, February 11 at 7pm at Kleinhans Hall, the public will have the opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing brand new orchestral works to life, as music by the four selected composers is read by the BPO under the baton of associate conductor, Stefan Sanders. The composers – Cody Forrest, Jay Hurst, Yuan-Chen Li, and Scott Ordway – were selected through a national call for scores, and during the Readings will receive feedback from BPO Musicians, Sanders, and mentor composers Robert Beaser of The Juilliard School and artistic director laureate of American Composers Orchestra, Rob Deemer from SUNY Fredonia, and Pulitzer Prize winner Melinda Wagner. Afterwards, the audience is invited to be a part of a discussion Q&A with the young composers, the conductor, and mentor composers.

The 13th Street Rep's 'George M. Cohan Song-and-Dance Award'-honoring a triple-threat singer/dancer/actor--has this year been presented to two people: Rayna Hirt and Michael Czyz. Cohan himself-the quintessential song-and-dance man-may have long since gone to his reward. But his great-granddaughter, singer/actress Jennifer Cohan Ross, was on hand to present the awards. The 13th Street Rep's 97-year-old founder/artistic director, Edith O'Hara-a longtime believer in the importance of encouraging fresh talent--was there, too, to congratulate the winners. Playwright Chip Deffaa, whose work has often been presented by the theater, emceed the event.

This year, ASCAP brings its 100th birthday celebration into the holiday season by unwrapping the top 30 ASCAP holiday songs of all time. Topping the list is 'Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,' written by Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie.

Pontine Theatre presents it's original production, A New England Christmas, underwritten by Chris Dwyer & Michael Huxtable. From attending the New Theatre 2015 season launch, it is clear from Artistic Director Louise Fischer's introduction that New Theatre is a "family" with a passion for what they create. ?Skylight Music Theatre is creating a new production of the award-winning musical The Wizard of Oz. The production runs November 21, 2014 through January 4, 2015 in the Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center (158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee WI).

Allen D. Cornell, Riverside Theatre's producing Artistic Director, and Ken Clifton, Riverside's Musical Director, have teamed up to create a special theatrical event based upon the music of legendary Broadway icons Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. The Music of Lerner & Loewe takes place on the Stark Stage at 8 p.m. tonight, November 20 and Saturday, November 22, 2014.

Ashleigh Smith from Lewisville, Texas won the 3rd Annual Sarah Vaughan Competition held on Sunday, November 16 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark. NJPAC, Larry Rosen Productions (LRP), and Concord Music Group have created a landmark agreement to provide an exclusive recording contract offer to record and release an album on Concord Records to the winner of the 2014 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, now known as the SASSY awards. In addition to a recording contract offer, Smith also received a $5,000 cash award. The 2nd Place Winner of the Competition was Shacara Rogers, from Washington, DC, who was awarded a $1,500 cash prize and the 3rd Place Winner was Sarah McKenzie, from Boston, MA, who received a $500.00 cash award.
