Most actors receive a standard show contract for around 12 months, but that doesn't mean every actor hangs up their shoes and immediately walks into another show. In fact, not only do some actors extend their contracts, but some make an entire career out of an individual credit. Rob Ouellette, who is currently playing pianist Oscar and a member of the tap-dancing ensemble of the 42nd STREET national tour is about to shuffle into his 1,000th performance with the show on February 16th, 2017, so we caught up with him about his experience.
Not only has Rob danced his way through six different companies of the musical, but he's performed several variations of the show's choreography, has worked three times with original book writer and director Mark Bramble, as well as with choreography icons Randy Skinner, Kelli Barclay, and Rick Conant, among others.

SOULSKIN Dance is proud to present a brand new work SATIN & SWING as part of their 4th Season in San Francisco. Artistic Director and Choreographer Adrianna Thompson seeks to engage audiences in a study of two eras, the 1920s and the present. Dance Mission Theatre transforms into a time machine, transporting us back to the 1920s. Glitz and glam sparkle from the dingy corners of a speakeasy. Raucous jazz blares, bringing bejeweled and sequined dancing flapper girls to life. An evening of indulgence has begun. The entry notes of Prince's 'Erotic City' ring in your ears, an echo from another time. Suddenly you notice the writing on the wall. The crash of overindulgence is imminent.

It's now, officially, a Folsom tradition: International Guitar Night returns to the Harris Center, presenting three guitar luminaries in a conversation about music that is unlike any other. IGN Founder Brian Gore is on hiatus from touring; in his place, gypsy jazz legend Lulo Reinhardt will be stepping in as guest host for International Guitar Night's 17th year of touring. Lulo will be joined by three new, incredibly dynamic musicians: Italy's innovative contemporary guitarist Luca Stricagnoli; brilliant young Brazilian composer/performer Chrystian Dozza; and India's ground-breaking slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya. Luca's inventive 'tapping' techniques have garnered over 7 million views on YouTube. Chrystian has garnered many prestigious awards as one of Brazil's leading young guitarists. Debashish has invented his own technique for playing classical Indian music on the slide guitar.

For theatre lovers in our area, we always look forward to what our theatre companies have in store for us in their upcoming seasons. We look to see if there are any trends that stand out to us as audience members. We also see growth in many companies with each new season of shows. Anyone that's been following DC theatre for a while will notice how things have changed in the last twenty or thirty years. One of the biggest examples of this would be the clean up and revitalization of 14th Street, which had direct implications for Studio Theatre and Source.

Few things are as riveting as watching an actor or actress that demands an audience's attention 100% of the time while they are onstage/onscreen. Immediately, I think of Patti LuPone in Gypsy. Granted, Mama Rose is a role that's designed to be all-consuming, but LuPone was raved about as being mesmerizing, so much so that she inevitably won the Tony Award in 2008. Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street is another performance that comes to mind when I think of actors that require every ounce of my attention. Though a controversial film, DiCaprio was universally hailed for his brilliant portrayal of the morally questionable Jordan Belfort, so much so that he garnered himself an Oscar nomination.
