Four recent shows at Don't Tell Mama featured performers either making their debuts on the New York cabaret scene (Evelyn Sullivan and Erin McCracken) or who returned this spring in hopeful anticipation of sharing their artistic vision with audiences (Rob Sutton and Eve Eaton). Opinion Piece: Why Has NBC Resurrected The Psycho Killer Lesbian Plot?
by Marakay Rogers - Apr 6, 2015

The 'psycho lesbian' murderer is a staple media stereotype without basis in fact. Seeing it on NBC'S THE BLACKLIST in 'Vanessa Cruz' harks back to a less enlightened era of television and film. Isn't THE BLACKLIST sexist and offensive enough without it?

BWW Reviews: Hurricane Promotions Presents THE MIDTOWN MEN
by Heidi Scheuermann - Apr 1, 2015

There have been a few times in my life where I attended an event, be it a theatre production or a concert, and I woke up the next morning still reeling from the excitement with a cheesy smile plastered across my face. The first time I remember that happening was when my dad took me and my younger sister to see Hanson (yes, the Mmmbop guys) on their Middle of Nowhere Tour. I also remember feeling like that after I saw NEWSIES for the first time on Broadway. Experiencing THE MIDTOWN MEN at the Mahalia Jackson Theater was another one of those events. Not only are these guys some of the sweetest, most genuine humans I've ever met - we're talking funfetti cupcake status, here - they have a passion for entertaining that is unmatched.

BWW Reviews: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at ACT Feels a Little Anemic
by Jay Irwin - Mar 16, 2014

It's one of my all time favorite shows so naturally I'm a little picky about it. I mean, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's "Little Shop of Horrors" is one of those near perfect musicals. Great story, great characters, super fun music, it's got it all. But just as the plant in the show feeds on blood, so does the show, metaphorically speaking of blood as being the grit, funk, soul and attitudes of 1960's doo-wop and B-horror movies. And while there's a ton of talent and great voices on the stage of the current joint production from ACT and The 5th Avenue Theatre, there's also a shocking lack of that "blood" from the production.
