Berkeley Rep today announced that single tickets for the world premiere of the new musical Monsoon Wedding will go on sale to the general public on Monday, November 14. Monsoon Wedding will have its world premiere at Berkeley Rep's Roda Theatre next spring. Previews begin Friday, May 5, 2017 and the show runs through Sunday, June 25, 2017. Press night for Monsoon Weddingwill be Friday, May 19, 2017.

According to spoilers for week 9 of season 23 on Dancing with the Stars, Mark Ballas (currently playing Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys on Broadway) will serve as the episode's special guest star. Rhonda LaChanze Sapp, better known by her stage name LaChanze (Creole: the charmed one), taken from her grandmother, was born in St Augustine, Florida. Grew up in Connecticut, her parents nurtured her love for performing by enrolling her in high schools for the performing arts. After high school, LaChanze studied Drama at Morgan State University, before transferring to the University of the Arts, she studied Theatre and Dance. Her first Summer job was as a tap dancer in the ensemble of out of town tryout of 'Uptown...It's Hot!.' She made her Broadway debut in the same show in 1986.

The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

The 70th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 12th at 8/9c hosted by James Corden. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize.
