THE WINTER'S TALE From African-American Shakespeare Company Comes to The Taube Atrium This June

The African-American Shakespeare Company finishes off its 2016/17 season with The Winter's Tale, one of the few Shakespeare plays that has gone unproduced over its 22 years of making theater in San Francisco. The company's Artistic Director, L. Peter Callender, will direct this production. While he has appeared in the play as an actor four times over his career, this is his first time directing it. 'Our re-imagined adaptation will focus on the telling of the story through the eyes of the young Prince, Mamillius. My hope is empower young people and to explore what happens when a loving family suddenly becomes dysfunctional.' (more...)

Artists Rep & Isinglass Partner to Host Summer Theatre Leadership Academy for High School Students

Artists Repertory Theatre is partnering with local arts advocacy non-profit Isinglass to offer Egg, the organization's three year-old summer theatre leadership academy. Egg is an intensive seven-week program that teaches high school students the art and business of producing their own theatrical production. This summer 2017 program concludes with a week-long planning session for students to develop theatre and arts advocacy projects which they implement in their own schools during the following school year. The Watermill Theatre Announces Cast of TWELFTH NIGHT

Cheek By Jowl's THE WINTER'S TALE to be Screened in April

Following the successful screenings of Measure for Measure and Ubu Roi, Cheek by Jowl today announce the screening of their latest production of The Winter's Tale live from the Barbican Centre on 19 April at 7.30pm. The production is currently on an international tour ahead of performances at the Barbican, where it opens on 6 April, with previews from 5 April, and runs until 22 April. (more...)

If a sad tale really is best for winter, then we've certainly been blessed this year. For months the news has croaked out its nightly stories, each blacker than the one before, and though blossom is already on the trees there's not been so much as a whiff of a happy ending. Certainly not at English National Opera, where composer Ryan Wigglesworth and director Rory Kinnear have recut Shakespeare's play into something even more darkly ambiguous than its source. (more...)
