MTWorks Gives Voice to Wildlife Victims of Gulf Oil Spill in DARK WATER

MANHATTAN THEATRE WORKS (MTWorks), in association with the Theater Series at the 14th Street Y, are pleased to announce the world premiere of MTWorks Co-Artistic Director David Stallings' DARK WATER, directed by Heather Cohn (FringeNYC Excellence Award for Outstanding Direction for Other Bodies). In DARK WATER, the swampland of Louisiana is hit with the most massive oil spill known to history. Barnacle, an old sea turtle, fights against man's destruction, nature's wrath, and her enemies of the wild to save her children trapped in the spill. Poetry, allegory, music, puppetry and movement create this magical world as the animals of Louisiana face the ultimate threat to their lives.

San Francisco Girls Chorus Continues Its 35th Season with Benjamin Britten's NOYE'S FLUDDE, 3/29

San Francisco, CA, December 20, 2013 – The five-time Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus--Lisa Bielawa, Artistic Director and Valérie Sainte-Agathe, Music Director and Principal Conductor—continues its 35th anniversary season with a fully staged production of Benjamin Britten's 1957 opera Noye's Fludde, based on the biblical deluge story, in one performance only, Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 8 pm at Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco. Conducted by Ms. Sainte-Agathe, the cast will feature guest artists Carey Perloff as The Voice of God, bass-baritone Joe Chappell as Noah, mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen as Mrs. Noah and other soloist roles performed by members of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, to be announced. The production will be staged by Ariel Craft and will feature original art, costumes and set pieces created by members of San Francisco's acclaimed Creativity Explored, supported by a grant from the Creative Work Fund. The musical excerpts will be followed by an artist Q&A moderated by WQXR's Terrance McKnight. Iconic singer Cyndi Lauper returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of She's So Unusual, performing the album in its entirety tonight, November 16, at 8 p.m. Recorded and released in 1983, this album made rock history as Cyndi's debut solo album, exposing the world to her unique and multifaceted talent through her most unusual well-known songs and perennial radio favorites 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun', 'Time After Time', 'She Bop', 'Money Changes Everything' and 'All Through the Night'. She's So Unusual made Lauper a household name and cemented her place in musical history as the first female artist to have four Top 10 singles on a debut album. The release went on to sell more than 16 million copies worldwide and earned Lauper a Grammy Award for 'Best New Artist'. Special guest is Hunter Valentine, an alternative all-girl rock band out of Toronto, Canada. This event is part of the XFinity Rock Series.

The inimitable Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Fiona Shaw (Medea, 2002 Next Wave; Happy Days, 2008 Spring Season; John Gabriel Borkman, 2011 Spring Season) and dancer Daniel Hay-Gordon perform one of the best loved poems in the English language, Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, under the acclaimed direction of Phyllida Lloyd. This fiery, pared-down adaption of the 215-year-old tale tells of consequences paid while marooned at sea and of man's wanderings throughout the world in search of meaning.

The Classical Recording Foundation (CRF) is pleased to announce the 2013 winners of its twelfth annual Classical Recording Foundation Awards. Four prizes will be presented at the Foundation's Annual Awards Concert and Benefit at 7:30pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The event will feature CRF Young Artist of the Year pianist Roman Rabinovich performing selections from his CD Ballets Russes (Orchid; March 2013), pianist Laura Leon performing works by CRF Composer of the Year Peter Schickele's album The Music of Peter Schickele, Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artists Award winners Hsin-Yun Huang and Sarah Rothenberg in selections from their recording Viola Viola (Bridge; November 2012); andClassical Recording Foundation Award winner, cellist Sophie Shao, performing selections from her upcoming double-CD set of J.S. Bach's Cello Suites. The proceeds from the 2013 Classical Recording Foundation Award Ceremony and Benefit will go toward the 2014 Awards.
