New York City Center's 2009-10 season begins on September 22 with the sixth annual Fall for Dance Festival, featuring 20 companies in 10 nights of dance for only $10 per ticket. The season also includes the third season of acclaimed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon's dance company Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company and premieres by resident companies Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Paul Taylor Dance Company.

In contrast to the earlier shows of the ninth Broadway by the Year season, Scott Siegel chose a year with several hit shows?and hit shows?as the season finale at Town Hall last week. 1970 is probably best known for Company and Applause, but this was also the year of Purlie and The Rothschilds, as well as one of Richard Rodgers? final musicals, Two by Two. Untitled Theater Co. #61 will present a Festival of Jewish Theater & Ideas May 20th through June 14th. The Festival, which will include production by theater companies from around the US & Canada, will frame the Association for Jewish Theatre - International Conference (June 6-10), which will be hosted by Untitled Theater Co. #61, Artistic Director Edward Einhorn. This international conference of Jewish theater professionals is held annually in a different city.

Bucking the trend toward more modest offerings, Shadow Theatre Company expands its programming and offers six shows for its 2009-10 season. Celebrating its one-year anniversary in its new state-of-the-art facility in the East End Arts District in Aurora, Shadow Artistic Director Jeffrey Nickelson notes, 'One group that is under-represented in American theatre is women-especially African American woman; which is why our upcoming season celebrates women and is entitled 'Celebrating Women, Mothers and Daughters.' Girl Crazy, with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan, will open New York City Center's 2009-2010 Encores! season on November 19, 2009. The season will continue with Fanny, with music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S. N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, on February 4, 2010. Fanny will be the 50th Encores! production presented by City Center since 1994. The season will conclude with Anyone Can Whistle, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents' legendary 1964 musical, on April 8, 2010.
