The Zeffirelli production of Aida, which was recorded in front of a live audience at Milan's La Scala in High Definition television format with Dolby Digital sound, was the premier performance in the venerable opera house's 2006-2007 Season. The production features the costumes of Maurizio Mellenotti and stars Roberto Alagna as Radames, Ildiko Komlosi as Amneris and Violeta Urmana in the title role. Riccardo Chailly conducts La Scala's orchestra, chorus and ballet company. This is the production in which Roberto Alagna angrily left the stage during the opera's second performance; the recording was made on opening night - the only one Alagna completed.

The dancers will strut their stuff before a live audience with their professional partners provided by Quanita's Ballroom, Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Floor Play Dance, as well as freelance dance professionals. Broadway in Bryant Park tomorrow has been postponed due to the pending inclement weather. They are rescheduling tomorrow's performance for the rain date of August 15th. The performance was to include the casts of The Lion King, Vanities, Hairspray, Forbidden Broadway and Godspel.

Variety reports that New Line Cinema has just made a deal with John Waters, Hairspray's creator to pen a treatment for a sequel to the hit film. Also set to return are director/choreographer Adam Shankman, the song-writing team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
