Aicon Gallery Presents Rasheed Araeen in London, 9/17

Aicon Gallery in London will present Rasheed Araeen's solo exhibition 'Before and After Minimalism, 1959 - 1974'. The exhibition ranges from works he made in Pakistan such as 'My First Sculpture' to key minimalist works such as 'Sculpture No.1', 'First Structure' and 'Second Structure'. The exhibition then traces Araeen's introduction of the kinetic into minimalism, through works such as 'Char Yar' and 'Lovers' and finally, works that started to leave the confines of the studio entirely.

The Gallery at REDCAT is pleased to present the first Los Angeles presentation of two influential contemporary artists who pioneered the field of video art in China: Hangzhou-based artist Zhang Peili and Beijing-based artist Zhu Jia. Coming out of a generation that witnessed the ramifications of the Cultural Revolution, the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre and the infamous 1989 China/Avant-Garde exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary Art and its subsequent closing by state authorities, Zhang and Zhu use video to navigate the complex and shifting terrain that characterizes contemporary China.

The production of DAMN YANKEES playing at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport (LI), New York is a solid one. There are fine performances, inventive staging, colorful costumes and a jaunty score. However something very magical takes place half way through the second act: it is at this point that Broadway veteran André De Shields, who plays Mr. Applegate, sits in a chair, crosses his legs and launches into the song 'Those Were The Good Old Days'. It is the moment when the show is elevated into something extremely grand and memorable.

In an historic event entitled 'The Glass Slipper Ceiling,' Celia Fushille, Artistic and Executive Director of Smuin Ballet, has been invited to join four other female artistic directors to discuss the rarity of their position in ballet companies across the United States. The seminar is part of Virginia's statewide arts event, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts, co-sponsored by Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia, and the CenterStage Foundation and will be held April 28, 2010 in the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage in Virginia.

Kathleen Chalfant will join a host of other attendees at this year's Marguerite Duras Festival, taking place from February 17th through March 18th. The works of Marguerite Duras, France's well-known author, playwright and film director, will be celebrated during a month-long multidisciplinary festival in New York City. The festival will also feature French actor William Nadylam and a presentation of Duras' Diptych: The Lover and La Musica Deuxieme directed by Astrid Bas.

NUTTY PROFESSOR Aims for Broadway Opening, Fall 2010

Jerry Lewis has announced to the Las Vegas Review-Journal that his upcoming show, THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, is aiming to open on Broadway in October or November of 2010. Lewis will make his theatrical directorial debut on Broadway with the new musical, 'THE NUTTY PROFESSOR', based on the 1963 film that he starred in and co-wrote. With music by Academy Award, Emmy Award, Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Marvin Hamlisch and a book and lyrics by multiple Tony Award winner and Grammy Nominee Rupert Holmes, the musical is aiming for a bow on Broadway in the 2010/2011 season and is being produced by Loud Watch Productions, LLC.
