First reported by the Wall Street Journal, Oscar, Tony and multi-award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead on Sunday afternoon, at his apartment at 35 Bethune Street, in Manhattan's West Village. According to police reports, the initial cause of death is believed to have been a drug overdose; and Hoffman had been admitted to rehab last year for herion abuse.

HERE LIES LOVE Extends Again Through June 2 at the Public

The Public Theater announced another two week extension today for the world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE began performances on Tuesday, April 2 and has been extended twice due to high demand. The new 360 degree musical will now run through Sunday, June 2 in The Public's LuEsther Theater, with an official press opening on Tuesday, April 23.

UMKC Theatre completes its 2012-2013 season with a Chekhov masterpiece, "Burnt by the Sun." Directed by Tom Mardikes, "Burnt by the Sun" will preview May 3 - 7, open May 8, and run selected dates through May 12 at Studio 116, James C. Olson Performing Arts Center, on the UMKC campus. This production opens like the familiar work of Chekhov and then turns into a stunning production hit by violence so sudden and so shocking it echoes the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. The Russian/French movie, which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film, is brilliantly adapted for the stage by Peter Flannery.

Julia Albain and Corey Lubowich (of Team StarKid fame) have announced a Kickstarter campaign for Judas Redux, a project that will include extensive behind-the-scenes content and a new production of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis, directed by Julia Albain, and featuring Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter and Brian Rosenthal. If the goal of $36,000 is met, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot will be presented at Stage 773, 1225 West Belmont in Chicago, for 18 performances, August 23 - September 8, 2013. The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced a two week extension today for the world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE begins performances on Tuesday, April 2 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, May 5. It will now run an additional two weeks through Sunday, May 19.

Patrick Riviere, who is in the midst of directing the epic drama by Stephen Adly Guirgis, about Judas's trial in a courtroom in Purgatory, is now adding the double duty of also playing The Judge and Caiaphas the Elder after several other actors had film and TV prospects come their way.

RED Plays Dallas Theater Center, Now thru March 24

Dallas Theater Center welcomes North Texans into the studio of artist Mark Rothko in the Texas premiere of Tony Award-winning Red, directed by DTC associate artistic director Joel Ferrell. This production turns the 9th floor of the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre into Rothko's studio and gives audience members an intimate look at the brilliant and volatile artist as he undertakes a new commission. This show also marks the first production-specific collaboration between DTC and the Dallas Museum of Art, which will provide patrons and visitors the opportunity to learn about the world of Rothko by seeing the play at DTC, viewing original works of art by Rothko and his contemporaries at the DMA and engaging in special events about the work with both organizations. Red opens with preview performances tonight, February 7 and runs through Sunday, March 24 and is the first show ever to be performed on the 9th floor of the Wyly Theatre.
