Russell Simmons Bringing Hip-Hop Musical THE SCENARIO to New York Next Fall?

Hip-hop pioneer, Tony Award-winning producer and multi-hyphenate entrepreneur Russell Simmons has announced the development of THE SCENARIO, a new stage musical that will be driven by the music that defined a generation: the greatest hits from a two-decade span of hip-hop - from the 'golden age' of the mid-80s to mid-90s 'when it seemed that every new single reinvented the genre' (Rolling Stone), to the chart-topping artists at the turn of the millennium.

The Public Theater announced additional casting today for the 2015 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, beginning Wednesday, May 27 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. This summer will feature Shakespeare's late romances with THE TEMPEST, directed by Tony Award nominee Michael Greif, and CYMBELINE, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan. Jesse Tyler Ferguson will return to the Park this summer as Trinculo in THE TEMPEST, along with Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe teaming up again with Daniel Sullivan on CYMBELINE to play Posthumus Leonatus/Cloten and Imogen, respectively.

Contra Costa Civic Theatre Continues 55th Anniversary Season with Comedy, The Foreigner, April 3-26

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) continues its 55th season with one of the most popular American comedies, The Foreigner, directed by Ken Sonkin in his CCCT debut, from April 3-26, 2015. Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.

Sarasota Opera is seeking a limited number of enthusiastic outgoing people to serve as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, for its 2015 Winter Festival Season production of Rimsky-Korsakov's fairy tale opera The Golden Cockerel and Verdi's Don Carlos. Supers will take the parts of an emperor, prisoner, and official townspeople. Age range for these characters is from teenager to 60s. At this time we are looking for men only.

After seeing the new INTO THE WOODS movie twice over the holidays, I posted on Twitter about how two of the songs had stuck with me. After a tweet conversation, my BWW colleague Jeff Walker and I decided to put our heads together to try and come up with a list of Sondheim's most hummable tunes. Despite not discussing it beforehand, Jeff ended up picking songs from the 1960s and 70s, and I filled in the gaps with numbers from the 80s and 90s.
