The University of Hartford's The Hartt School presents Dr. Watson Morrison, pianist, in concert to celebrate his 85th birthday and 59 years of teaching, today November 10, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117. There is no admission charge, and a light reception will follow the performance. The program includes works by Schubert and Liszt, and a piece written especially for Morrison by Hartt faculty member David Macbride.

Quintessence Theatre Group launches its fourth season of progressive classic theatre with Shakespeare's HAMLET presented in rotating repertory with Goldmsmith's SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER, directed by Alexander Burns. Quintessence's celebrated full throttle actor and text driven approach to the classics will be further enhanced by an Elizabethan Courtyard style staging, complete with groundlings, and a fast and furious two hour abridgement of HAMLET. HAMLET will begin previews on Wednesday, October 9 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 12 at 8pm. SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER will begin previews on Thursday, October 17 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 26 at 8pm. Howard Hawks, the quintessential Hollywood director known for his mastery of many genres, will be the subject of a complete retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from today, September 7 through November 10, 2013. The Museum will present 39 features. All of the films will be shown in 35mm-many in stunning restorations-except for Red Line 7000, which will be shown in 16mm.

The Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Museum of Art collaborate in the presentation of California Masterworks, two intimate Cleveland Orchestra concerts at the museum featuring works by groundbreaking composers inextricably associated with California. James Feddeck, Cleveland Orchestra assistant conductor, will conduct performances Wednesday, May 1 and Friday, May 3 in the museum's Gartner Auditorium. The programs include works by John Adams, Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison, Terry Riley, James Tenney, and, in a posthumous world premiere, Dane Rudhyar. The concerts are part of the museum's VIVA! & Gala Performing Arts series, which explores extraordinary performing arts from around the world.

Carnegie Hall today announced that a $10 million major gift from Judith and Burton Resnick will provide important support toward its Studio Towers Renovation Project, a comprehensive undertaking that will create new inspirational spaces for music education on the building's existing upper floors while also fully refurbishing the venue's backstage areas. The project, scheduled to be completed and opened in 2014, will be transformational for Carnegie Hall, creating new facilities designed to make great music accessible to as many people as possible.

The theatre, which opened on December 20, 1912 with a Peg O'My Heart starring Laurette Taylor, is currently home to the Broadway Premiere of Grace, which will end its limited engagement on January 6, 2013. It will next be home to the World Premiere production of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, a new play written by Richard Greenberg, which starts performances on Monday, March 4 and opens on Wednesday, March 20.
