Finborough Theatre Presents THE POTTING SHED, 1/4

Unseen in London since 1971, Graham Greene's controversial play The Potting Shed returns to the Finborough Theatre by popular demand after a sell-out Sunday and Monday run in October 2010, opening on Tuesday, 4 January 2011 for a four week run (Press Night: Thursday, 6 January 2011 at 7.30pm) as part of RediscoveriesUK, a three month season of rediscovered plays by writers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This March at Jermyn Street Theatre, Christopher Timothy stars in the first major revival of Graham Greene's 1953 drama The Living Room for sixty years. This powerful and shocking story of sex, sin and guilt was Greene's first work for the stage and prompted the critic Kenneth Tynan to describe it as 'The best first play of its generation'. At the time it launched the career of a young Dorothy Tutin and enjoyed acclaimed runs in the West End and Broadway. (more...)

Googie Withers Dies at 94

Born Georgette Lizette Withers on March 12, 1917 in Karachi, India, she was known as 'Googie' from an early age. Her family returned to England when she was aged seven and she began acting at the age of 12, appearing at the Victoria Palace in The Windmill Man. A student at the Italia Conti Academy of Arts, she was a dancer in a West End production when she was offered work as a film extra in Michael Powell's The Girl in the Crowd (1935). She arrived on the set to find one of the major players in the production had been dismissed, and she was immediately asked to step into the role. (more...)

Playwright David Henry Hwang Writes on the Passing of Gene Wilder

Playwright David Henry Hwang, who worked with Wilder briefly in the early stages of his play M. Butterfly, just wrote a tribute to the stage and screen legend. Wilder was cast as Rene Gallimard- a role that was later played by John Lithgow after Wilder withdrew from the production. (more...)
