The American Theatre Wing has announced new appointments to its Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee.

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and preserving musical gems from the past, has announced Tony Award-nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q), Christine Pedi (NEWSical the Musical), and Stephanie Umoh (Ragtime) will lead the parade of the special Summer 2017 Musicals in Mufti presentation of the hit Broadway revue Jerry's Girls.

On Monday, July 24, Theater People podcast welcomes Broadway favorite Julia Murney. Murney discusses growing up in New York City where she attended La Guardia High school during the year and the famed Stagedoor Manor during the summer.

101 never looked so good! Having premiered on Broadway in 2005, The Color Purple was first seen on the London stage back in 2013 at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The production, directed by John Doyle, subsequently transferred to Broadway, launching British actress Cynthia Erivo to international stardom.

The British Theatre Academy presents a charity gala performance of The Color Purple to raise money for young performers who cannot afford to train in performing arts. Recent performances have included The Secret Garden at The Ambassadors Theatre and Godspell at St Pauls Church, Covent Garden. This concert features a line-up of West End performers alongside a choir of children from the BTA.

On Thursday, May 25 at 7:30 pm, join acclaimed author and activist Alice Walker in an intimate lecture inspired by her life's work and the exhibition We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965-85. Walker won both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1983 for The Color Purple, which was adapted as a movie in 1985 and a Broadway musical in 2005.

McCarter Theatre Center closes the 2016-2017 Theater Series with a new production of Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage's Intimate Apparel, a story of an African-American seamstress living in 1905 New York City pursuing her dreams of love and independence. Directed by Jade King Carroll, Intimate Apparel will run from May 5 to June 4.

Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Mike Isaacson will be presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for 'outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing' at a reception at Sardi's on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. It was initially scheduled for March 14th but was rescheduled due to snowstorm Stella.

Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures has just announced that Academy Award winner Bill Condon (Disney's Beauty & the Beast, Gods and Monsters, Chicago and Dreamgirls) will direct the first stage adaptation of A STAR IS BORN, based on the 1954 Warner Bros. motion picture. The new musical is in early development and Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures will announce a production timeline in the near future.

The question of gender parity in the theatre is a matter that has long been explored within our community. While recent Broadway seasons have taken encouraging steps toward better female representation, both on and offstage, the question of gender equality within the theatre continues to be a hotly debated issue across the theatrical sphere.
