The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, the live event space and broadcast studio of WNYC and WQXR, today announced that Grammy Award-Winning composer and jazz pianist Arturo O'Farrill will serve as its 2019 Artist-in-Residence.

On Tuesday, December 4th, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continued its historic 60th Anniversary season with the world premiere of Ronald K. Brown's The Call, the renowned choreographer's seventh work for the Company which he describes as “a love letter to Ailey.” The New York Times says, “The Call… is something of a conversation between the choreographers, a beauty of a dance that ripples along while highlighting Ailey's formality, his ebullience and how he came to find his choreographic voice.” There are four more chances to see The Call this season: Dec. 8 mat, 9 eve, 20, and 29 mat.

The Auditorium Theatre announces programming for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's return to Chicago March 6-10, commemorating the company's 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of its first performances at the Auditorium, its Chicago home. During these special engagements, Ailey gives Midwest premieres to its first ever two-act ballet, Rennie Harris' Lazarus; Wayne McGregor's Kairos; and Jessica Lang's EN. The company also performs the Timeless Ailey program, a curated selection of classic pieces by company founder and visionary Alvin Ailey.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 60th Anniversary holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with a star-studded Opening Night Gala Benefit performance and party led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, with iconic film stars Angela Bassett and Cicely Tyson as honorary chairs. Prudential Financial received the Ailey Legacy Honor for their generous support and commitment to Ailey, especially its education and community programs. The award was presented by Battle and Christopher Taylor, an alumnus of the inaugural AileyCamp Newark (2011) and a current scholarship student at The Ailey School, and accepted by Lata Reddy, Senior Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Impact at Prudential Financial.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center's Principal Dance Company, returns to the theater's stage from November 28 - December 30, 2018 for a milestone season. During the Company's Ailey Ascending 60th Anniversary celebration, Artistic Director Robert Battle leads Ailey's 32 extraordinary dancers during this five-week holiday engagement that will elevate a legacy of excellence in artistry with premieres by some of today's most revered and prolific choreographers, including world premieres by Rennie Harris and Ronald K. Dr. David DiChiera, Founder and long-time General Director of Michigan Opera Theatre (MOT), died today at his home in Detroit with his family by his side. He was 83 years old and had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March, 2017.

Stephen Petronio Company announces its arrival in the Hudson Valley with a program of signature, show-stopping works at Hudson Hall. For their Hudson debut, the Company perform three dances by choreographer Stephen Petronio including his newest work, Hardness 10, which marked his third collaboration with composer Nico Muhly and first with fashion designer Patricia Field ARTFASHION; an excerpt from Underland (2003), inspired by the dark, sensual music of Australian legend, Nick Cave; and Bud Suite (2006), which muses on the melodic pop-tunes of Rufus Wainwright. Also on the program is a revival of choreographer Steve Paxton's virtuosic Excerpt from Goldberg Variations (1986), a Bessie-nominated restaging from Petronio's Bloodlines project, established to revive works by post-modern dance masters.

This August, New York City will host the first ever Classical Bridge, an international music festival, academy and conference designed to build bridges through the music. Presented by New York Concert Artists & Associates (NYCA), the inaugural event runs August 4 - 11 at Merkin Concert Hall atKaufman Music Center (129 West 67th Street, between Broadway & Amsterdam Ave), Symphony Space (2537 Broadway, at 96th Street), and Steinway Hall (1133 Avenue of the Americas at 44th Street). New York City Ballet's 2018 Spring Season opens on Tuesday, April 24 and will continue for six weeks through June 3. The centerpiece of the Spring Season will be Robbins 100, a celebration of Jerome Robbins, NYCB's co-founding choreographer, whose remarkable contributions to the worlds of ballet and Broadway musical theater have made an indelible impression on both art forms. The three-week celebration will run from May 3 to May 20, featuring 20 works created by Robbins over the course of 40years, as well as two world premiere ballets in tribute to Robbins. Robbins 100 will open on Thursday, May 3 with a Spring Gala performance featuring Robbins'

The 8th annual Kozlova International Ballet Competition will take place March 26-30 at Symphony Space, NYC.   More than 100 dancers from around the world, from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, USA, and Venezuela will gather in NYC to dance for scholarships to international schools, company contracts, and other awards before a distinguished jury led by Andris Liepa, former principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet and guest with ABT, NYCB, and other international companies.

From March 27-April 1, Mabou Mines is proud to present the work of its 2018 SUITE/Space artists in a festival-like setting-two performances each night for 6 nights in a row-in the newly renovated, state-of-the-art Mabou Mines Theater. The inaugural SUITE/Space artists, Tariq Al-Sabir, Tamar-kali, Davalois Fearon and Sanaz Ghajar, work in a variety of disciplines and share Mabou Mines' commitment to breaking new ground in form and content. Founded in the summer of 1970 as an artist-driven collective, Mabou Mines has a long history of fostering the next generation of artists through mentorships and residencies. SUITE/Space is a new performance initiative for artists that reflect New York City's rich cultural landscape and provides artistic advisement, development support, rehearsal space, and opportunities for public performance. 

In a program anticipating major themes of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's recently announced 2018-19 season, the NJSO and Music Director Xian Zhang present the world premiere of Richard Danielpour's Carnival of the Ancients for Piano and Orchestra alongside works by Tchaikovsky and Haydn, March 9-11 in Newark, Red Bank and New Brunswick.

The Mingus Dynasty Septet plays often at the Jazz Standard in New York City, one of the top jazz clubs in the country. La Jolla's Athenaeum Library brought them to San Diego for two performances that included a tribute to Charles Mingus's Tijuana Moods album, originally recorded in 1957 and finally released in 1962. The septet, appropriately enough, played first in Tijuana. The following night I was at the TSRI Auditorium near the UCSD campus to see a repeat performance of the all-Mingus program.

Kronos Quartet/Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) is proud to announce the fourth group of composers for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. Launched in 2015, Kronos' Fifty for the Future is an exciting partnership with Carnegie Hall and others to create 50 new works - by 25 women and 25 men - expressly for the training of students and emerging professionals. Each year, ten composers are announced. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) opens the doors to its new permanent home in the Miami Design District on December 1, 2017. Marking the first U.S. project designed by Spanish firm Aranguren + Gallegos Arquitectos, the new 37,500-square-foot building launches with a bold inaugural program that reflects the museum's mission of championing new narratives in contemporary art and providing a platform for the exchange of art and ideas. With more than double the gallery space and a new outdoor sculpture garden, ICA Miami's new home enables the museum to present ambitious thematic surveys for the first time in its history, as well as to expand its commitment to mounting monographic presentations of emerging talent, commissioning site-specific and boundary-pushing works of art, and fostering new scholarship.
