Music Director Thierry Fischer and President & CEO Paul Meecham today announced the Utah Symphony's 2019-20 season, sponsored by the George S. and Dolores Dor Eccles Foundation, with highlights including multi-media concert experiences featuring the twelve movements from Olivier Messiaen's Des canyons aux toiles ( From the canyons to the stars ), a celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday in 2020 and a gala concert featuring violin virtuoso Joshua Bell to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Utah Symphony's first-ever performance, which took place on May 8, 1940. American composer Andrew Norman returns to present three of his orchestral works and work with young musicians in Utah for his second year as Composer-in-Association, and during fall 2020, the Utah Symphony pays tribute to Hispanic Heritage with Disney's Coco in concert and several programs featuring music by Latin-American composers led by Carlos Miguel Prieto. In addition to the eighteen weekends of performances of the Masterworks Series, the details for the 2019-20 Entertainment Series, Family Series, UNWOUND concerts, and many special events were released. Oscar-qualifying New York Int'l Children's Film Festival announced the complete short film lineup for its 2019 event, which runs February 22-March 17 at theaters throughout New York: IFC Center, Scandinavia House, Quad Cinemas, SVA Theatre, Cinépolis Chelsea, Alamo Drafthouse and the Museum of the Moving Image. Established in 1997, the acclaimed Festival is the nation's largest for children and teens and will present new animated, live action, documentary and experimental shorts and features from 37 countries. The University of Washington has announced the complete roster of artists who have been selected as Creative Research Fellows as part of its first three-year Creative Fellowships Initiative. Funded by a $750,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the interdisciplinary initiative will advance the field of performing arts by supporting artists in the development of new works and by integrating the performing arts disciplines into a broader context academically, artistically, and socially.

Hell in a Handbag Productions is pleased to announce its 2019 Season, launching this winter with the show that started it all: POSEIDON! An Upside Down Musical, an unauthorized musical parody of the classic granddaddy of all disaster films, 1972's The Poseidon Adventure. The much-anticipated revival of Handbag's very first show features a book, music and lyrics by Artistic Director David Cerda* with Scott Lamberty, direction by Derek Van Barham, music direction by Andrew Milliken, and choreography by Breon Arzell. The cast includes ensemble members Sydney Genco*, Caitlin Jackson*, Elizabeth Lesinski*, David Lipschutz*, Stevie Love* and a boatload of others. POSEIDON will play at a venue befitting of an ocean liner: The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood.

Winner of a 2017 Grammy Award for his debut CD, "his voice…his passion for music… will take you to the heavens" (Darlene Ahuna). Kalani Pe'a's path to stardom was anything but direct: he was diagnosed with a speech impediment at age four, and his mother introduced him to singing to help him with words. He's come a long way: in 2017, following his first Na Hoku Award, he was honored by the Hawai'i State House of Representatives as a "torchbearer [recognized] for his accomplishments and continued work on behalf of Native Hawaiians." The Harris Center welcomes Kalana Pe'a in his Folsom debut.

Public booking for Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Mary Poppins will open at 10am GMT on 28 January 2019. The musical, based on the stories of P. L. Travers and the original film, returns to its original West End home at the Prince Edward Theatre after fifteen years. Mary Poppins will begin previews on 23 October 2019 with opening night on 13 November and initially go on sale until 29 March 2020.

With performances as wide-ranging as Margaret McAuliffe's acclaimed one-woman play The Humours of Bandon, Declan O'Rourke's epic song cycle Chronicles of the Great Irish Famine, and Paul Muldoon's performance adaptation of a 1773 Irish poem, IAC provides an intimate home for artists' boldest visions. Three-time Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum band MAROON 5 will take center stage at the PEPSI SUPER BOWL LIII HALFTIME SHOW on CBS at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, they confirmed today.
