The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre will honor esteemed stage actress Patti LuPone with the company's third Stephen Sondheim Award. The award, established in 2009 in honor of America's most influential contemporary musical theater writer and composer, will be presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit on April 16, 2012 at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC. Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer said, 'I am thrilled that Patti LuPone will be this year's recipient of the Stephen Sondheim Award. With her wonderful performances in Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Company, Passion, and more - she has had an amazing connection to Steve's words and music. Theare legend Stephen Sondheim took soe time out of his busy musical-writing schedule back in 1968 to write a series of crossword puzzles for New York Magazine. The collection was published in 1980, but has been out of print since, making it difficult for theatre lovers to track them down. Now, according to the New York Times, a website has just shared 19 scans of real Sondheim puzzles!

A.R.T. American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) will present The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, opening the A.R.T.'s 2011-2 season on August 117 at the Loeb Drama Center. The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, by George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin, is adapted by Suzan-Lori Parks and Diedre Murray, and directed by A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus.

Producers Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders announced today that Michael Cerveris will star as Juan Peron in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's landmark musical EVITA opening on Broadway in the spring of 2012 at The Marquis Theatre, 1535 Broadway. Cerveris joins the previously announced world renowned music artist Ricky Martin (Che) and, in her Broadway debut, Olivier Award Winning Argentinean actress Elena Roger (Eva). Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage and Tony Award winner Rob Ashford will direct and choreograph, respectively. This is the first new Broadway production of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical since it debuted on Broadway more than 30 years ago.

According to a report by Lemonwade, Broadway legends Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin might bring their concert show, which toured the country in 2010-11, to the Great White Way this fall. The show is aiming to open in mid-October and run through the holiday season. Additional details have not yet been released.
