SHOWTIME announced today that it has exclusively acquired the broadcast rights to the two-part documentary HISTORY OF THE EAGLES. Granting unprecedented access, the iconic rock band partnered with Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), to produce this inside look into the history of the band and the legacy of its music. Part One will premiere today at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT, and make its television debut on Friday, February 15, at 8 PM ET/PT (two hours) on SHOWTIME. Part Two will premiere the following night, Saturday, February 16, at 8pm ET/PT(one hour).

Presented by Performance Space 122 (PS122) and Dixon Place as part of PS122's eighth annual COIL festival, Ruff pays tribute to the host of crooners, lounge singers, movie stars, rock and roll bands and eccentric family members who have kept Shaw company, living inside her, for the past 68 years. Guided by longtime collaborator Lois Weaver, Shaw throws off the stigma of age and embraces the joy-and necessity-of creating new work, post-stroke, aided by new technology and even deeper courage. Shaw is the recipient of the 2011 Ethyl Eichelberger award.

In the days that followed the 9/11 attacks, Circle leaders and members of the Assassins production team were forced to consider closing the show (included in Sondheim's musical is the character of Samuel Byck, an unsuccessful presidential assassin who talks vividly about flying an airplane into the White House to kill President Richard Nixon in 1968. As Circle leaders discussed whether to shutter the show for a weekend, or to cancel the remaining three weeks of the show's run, the show's cast members debated whether or not they could justify to themselves, their friends and their families their own decision to continue with the show in the days just after the deadliest attack ever on American soil.
