Celebrating the unique ability of music and the arts to address challenging social and moral issues, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) presents LIFT EVERY VOICE, a three-week, city-wide series of free and ticketed concerts, conversations and community engagement curated by LACO Music Director Jeffrey Kahane from January 14 to 29, 2017, at venues across the Southland.  LIFT EVERY VOICE, conceived and curated by Kahane to explore themes of tolerance, compassion, cooperation and creativity along with the power of music to encourage understanding and promote peace, was inspired by the lives of human and civil rights champions Rabbi Joachim Prinz, composer Kurt Weill and Martin Luther King, Jr.  The series is a signature part of Kahane's 20th and final LACO season, which features programming that reflects his far-reaching impact, broad musical sensibilities, distinctive philosophical interests and tremendous artistic passion.  Among LIFT EVERY VOICE's highlights are the first Los Angeles performance since the 1950s of Weill's profound anti- apartheid musical Lost in the Stars, directed by Anne Bogart, and Weill/Brecht's satirical The Seven Deadly Sins with chanteuse Storm Large, both provocative works addressing weighty moral issues; violinist Daniel Hope featured on the U.S. premiere of Weill's Song-Suite For Violin and Orchestra arranged by Paul Bateman; the West Coast premiere of Bruce Adolphe's Violin Concerto “I Will Not Remain Silent”; a joint performance with the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA); and symposiums a chamber music program and film screenings. 

OPERA NEWS Editor in Chief F. Paul Driscoll today announced the recipients of the 12th Annual OPERA NEWS Awards. This year's honorees—stage director Robert Carsen, soprano Christine Goerke, conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, tenor Matthew Polenzani, and mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade—will be feted at a black tie gala celebration on April 9th, 2017 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara will be the special musical guest.

This production marks CW's first partnership with the National New Play Network for this Rolling World Premiere. Into the Beautiful North is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize finalist Luis Alberto Urrea and inspired by the classic Hollywood western The Magnificent Seven.

North Carolina Stage Company (NC Stage) is excited to announce the cast for the world premiere of CURVY WIDOW: THE MUSICAL.

"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength."  Greenway Arts Alliance Presents: George Orwell's 1984, directed by Kate Jopson as the first production of their novel to stage program Greenway Reads. 300 Fairfax High School students are reading the novel and will attend matinee's of the theatrical production. The adaptation by Alan Lyddiard creates an interactive and engaging experience for audience members. Jopson said, "We're trying to create an immersive experience. The elements of the play and its themes are all around us in the real world. We try to emphasize that and as soon as you arrive at the theater there's not anywhere you're not in the set of 1984, even in the lobby and bathrooms."

The Oshman Family JCC will present the West Coast premiere of an acclaimed new production of The Dybbuk, featuring an all-star cast, 8pm Saturday, September 24, and 5pm Sunday, September 25 at the OFJCC's Schultz Cultural Arts Hall. The Dybbuk is a multimedia chamber opera composed by Ofer Ben-Amots, inspired by S. Ansky's timeless Yiddish play, and directed by Thomas Lindblade.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts begins its 30th Anniversary celebration with another one-night-only star-studded evening of dance: Tour de Force III. The performance will be the first event to represent the array and diversity of the Center's artistic programming, in this case, 30 years of presenting the greatest ballet companies and the world's most celebrated dancers. Tour de Force III will be on Saturday, August 27 in Segerstrom Hall. Produced in collaboration with Ardani Artists, the program will include four Center premieres: Clay by Vladimir Varnava, Zeitgeist by Alastair Marriott, Tristesse by Marcelo Gomes and Le Divertissement du Roi by Maxim Petrov. The international cast includes Diana Vishneva, Joaquin de Luz, Marcelo Gomes, Denis Matvienko, Marcelino Sambe?, Friedemann Vogel and Edward Watson, as well as members of the The Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada.

Happy Birthday, Danny Burstein! On Broadway, Burstein's appearances have included A Little Hotel on the Side (1992), Yakov in The Seagull (1992-93), in Saint Joan and Three Men on a Horse (both in 1993), Paul in Company (1995), 1st Officer William Murdoch in Titanic (1997-99), Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone (2006-07), Luther Billis in South Pacific (2008-10), and Taxi Driver in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (2010-11). He played the role of Buddy Plummer in the Kennedy Center production of Follies, which went on to play Broadway's Marquis Theatre and LA's Ahmanson Theatre. He is currently starring in the Roundabout revival of Cabaret, for which he earned a 2014 Tony nomination.
