 Known for his multifaceted musical personality, composer/musician Wayne Horvitz displays his remarkably singular and distinguishable sound in two new recordings: his debut pianos/keys-bass-drums trio album The Snowghost Sessions (Songlines, 10.05.18) and his debut orchestral CD Those Who Remain (National Sawdust Tracks, 10.12.18). CBS All Access, CBS' digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service, today announced a new original straight-to-series order for WHY WOMEN KILL, a darkly comedic drama created by Marc Cherry ('Desperate Housewives,' 'Devious Maids'). The series will be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. Creator Marc Cherry will serve as executive producer alongside Imagine's Brian Grazer ('Empire,' 'Genius') and Francie Calfo ('Empire,' 'Genius'), and Acme Productions' Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis.

Any teenage girl enrolled in any secondary school around the world can tell you how they were tormented or teased by other girls for some reason, be it their weight, height, hair, or lack of the latest hip clothing to wear. Based only on physical appearance, little regard was paid by the most popular Queen Bee to the real circumstances of others' lives which prevented others from living up to her unrealistic expectations of those she was willing to call 'friends' in her inner circle. I can certainly remember being excluded from the more popular groups of friends in high school, not only for my weight but for my lack of interest in boys and obsession with The Beatles. Think back and I bet you can remember similar experiences you lived through or how you made fun of others you perceived as not being worthy of your inner circle friendship.

Particularly in light of the 2016 documentary I Am Not Your Negro, author and civil rights activist James Baldwin is garnering new attention and appreciation for his astute analyses of race, class, and sexuality in U.S. culture. Our reading group will take up his groundbreaking semi-autobiographical first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953). Attendees are invited to read this seminal text that brought mid-20th Century African-American literature out of the shadow of Richard Wright while deftly exploring the post-Civil War Great Migration, its southern roots, its religious inflections, and its generational tensions. The suggested edition is the most recent paperback (ISBN 978-0345806543). Traditional New Orleans fare of coffee and beignets at Muriel's Jackson Square with lively discussion to follow led by Festival favorite and Southern literary scholar Gary Richards. Seating is limited to 50 persons; pre-registration is required.

Beginning today, 15 January, Hauser & Wirth will present its first New York exhibition devoted to the late sculptor Hans Josephsohn (1920 - 2012). For over six decades, the German-born Swiss artist devoted his practice to the enduring theme of the human figure, which he explored in standing, sitting, and reclining figures, as well as half-figures, heads, torsos, and reliefs. Josephsohn's highly personal artistic language - the distinctive weight, mass, and force he achieved through a bold, immediate, and highly physical way of working - conveys deep understanding of both classical sculpture and Modernist principles. From slim abstracted forms reminiscent of ancient steles, to rough-hewn figures cast in bronze and left unpainted, the artist's output reveals a continuous search to reinvent and express the fundamental humanity of the individual and to summon the presence of a person.
