'This is Us' returned to formula this week with a bittersweet look into our characters' mental health, passions, and problems.

Looking into the future, you'll find a number of new productions on tap for your entertainment pleasure, thanks to the efforts of theater companies all over Middle Tennessee. Here's our calendar for October 1, 2018, to help you plot your course through the end of the year...

John Prine's Spotify Singles is premiering today—listen HERE. The session was produced by Dave Cobb at RCA Studio A and includes a new version of Prine's “I Have Met My Love Today” as well as a rendition of Stevie Wonder's “I Just Called To Say I Love You”—both featuring special guests The Secret Sisters.

It's a beautiful show, gorgeously mounted, with a couple of questionable moves that do not detract from its overall loveliness.

John Prine won “Artist of the Year” at last night's Americana Music Honors & Awards. This is Prine's third time receiving the prestigious award following previous wins in 2017 and 2005.  

Fox Stage Productions and Kevin McCollum have announced the creative team for the new Broadway-bound musical MRS. DOUBTFIRE. Four-time Tony Award Winner Jerry Zaks, (most recently represented on Broadway by the hit revival of Hello, Dolly!) will direct, joined by Tony Award Nominees (for Something Rotten!) John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick (book) and Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick (music and lyrics).

Penobscot Theatre Company's Dramatic Academy has two offerings to end their summer program, Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook by Allison Gregory and William Shakespeare's As You Like It, August 16-19. Junie B Jones is Not a Crook will perform at 5:00PM August 16-18 and at 12:00PM August 19, and As You Like It will perform at 7:00PM August 16-18 and at 3:00PM on August 19. All performances will be at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor.

This weekend, Creative Time, The Fortune Society, artist Phil Collins, and over 100 collaborators hosted the second weekend of Bring Down The Walls.

Fleetwood Mac has announced their North American tour that will cover more than 50 cities and carry them through until the spring of 2019. The tour is produced by Live Nation and launches October 3, 2018 in Oklahoma. See the full list of tour dates below.

The Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program announces the debut performance of the Class of 2020. Fifth of July, from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson, will run in the Helen Theatre at Playhouse Square.

A brand new season of West End musicals, gripping dramas, dynamic dance and one night concerts will go on sale at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. Highlights include the return of the phenomenally successful smash hit musical THE BODYGUARD, a major new production of DOCTOR DOLITTLE THE MUSICAL, Belinda Lang and Oliver Cotton in DUET FOR ONE, Joe Pasquale, Russell Watson, Doreen Tipton's brand new live show DOREEN'S BIG TOP and the National Theatre return in 2019 with MACBETH.

Creative Time, in partnership with The Fortune Society, is proud to announce Bring Down The Walls, a three-part public art project with artist Phil Collins in collaboration with over 100 individuals and organizations located at Firehouse, Engine Company 31, a historic, decommissioned fire station. Bring Down The Walls will be free and open to the public each weekend in May.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the nine new playwrights today for the 2018-19 Emerging Writers Group. Now in its seventh cycle, the Emerging Writers Group is an ongoing initiative that targets playwrights at the earliest stages of their career, creating an artistic home, and offering support and resources for a diverse group of up-and-coming playwrights.

Two of the most successful and critically acclaimed rock bands REO Speedwagon and Chicago - who have sold 140 million records combined - announced today a co-headline North American summer tour kicking off June 13, 2018 in Concord, CA. The 30+ date tour, promoted by Live Nation, will take the multi-platinum selling groups through major cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Atlanta and Nashville for a night of unforgettable live music. The tour will conclude August 12 in Detroit, MI.

Emerging Indiana-based band Durand Jones & The Indications' deluxe version of their acclaimed self-titled debut album will be released on March 16 via Dead Oceans / Colemine Records. The album, which was originally released in 2016, received praise from The Philadelphia Inquirer, who called it, 'Smartly restrained music steeped in the Deep South' and Paste, who said, 'With a tingling rasp that screams James Brown and coos Otis Redding, Jones simply has to be heard to be believed on these vintage R&B pleas.' Detroit Metro Times furthered, 'Modern soul that pulls with as much power as Lee Fields and Charles Bradley.'

To celebrate this amazing milestone, we checked in by phone with Michael Crawford, from New Zealand. As many know, along with a long career creating numerous roles, the star also inspired the creation of this very web site. After I saw the production myself in 1994, my father said 'If you thought that was great, you need to hear the original...' And, the rest is BroadwayWorld history.

Edwin Hawkins, the four-time Grammy Award-winning leader of The Edwin Hawkins Singers' 1969 million-seller, Oh Happy Day, died January 15th at his home in the Bay area, after a bout with pancreatic cancer. He was 74 years old.

To celebrate the Velvet Underground's 50th anniversary, Verve Records/UMe is releasing The Velvet Underground, a limited-edition career-spanning box that collects all four of the pioneering band's studio albums, Velvets collaborator Nico's debut LP, Chelsea Girl, and a reconstruction of the fabled 'lost' 1969 album

Long Wharf Theatre presents The Chosen, adapted by Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok from the novel by Potok, directed by Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein, from November 22 through December 17.
