Beachwood High School to Celebrate Opening of Auditorium with Concert by The Cleveland Orchestra

 On Saturday evening, November 5, 2016, The Cleveland Orchestra will join with Beachwood High School to dedicate the school's newly renovated auditorium and celebrate the school system's outstanding music education programs.  This concert is made possible by the Alfred Lerner In-School Performance Fund, created through a gift to The Cleveland Orchestra's endowment by Mrs. Norma Lerner and the Lerner Foundation.  Tickets for the free concert will be available on the Beachwood Schools website at www.beachwoodschools.org/clevelandorchestra.aspx.  (more...)

An eighteen-year partnership between the two organizations, the project introduces theatre arts to homeless men recovering substance abuse and mental health challenges. As they work with CPT artists to create an original performance based on their personal experiences, participants develop skills and capacities that support their sobriety and transition to employment, permanent housing and independent living. Carnegie Hall Names 2016 National Youth Orchestra of the USA Musicians

Carnegie Hall today announced the names of the 109 outstanding young musicians selected from across the country for the fourth annual National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). The members of the 2016 orchestra-ages 16-19, hailing from 32 US states-have been recognized by Carnegie Hall as being among the finest players in the country following a comprehensive and highly competitive audition process. Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) presents ROAD TO HOPE at Christ Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 9th from 6:00pm-9:00pm, 3445 Warrensville Center Road, Cleveland OH, in the east inner suburb of Shaker Heights. Road to Hope at Christ Episcopal Church is the third of a series of performing arts events to be presented by CPT and community partners in multiple neighborhoods across the Cleveland area between January and June 2016. Visitors will enjoy a full program of theatre, dance, music, spoken word and collaborative art installations created by Northeast Ohio artists, inspired by Cleveland's role in the Underground Railroad and modern day struggles for freedom and justice. Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Hosts 'Stop the Hate Youth Speak Out' Competition

'I am more than the color of my skin.' 'Gender rules don't matter.' 'Self-hate is just as dangerous as any other.' 'Where you're from shouldn't change how people treat you.' Nearly 3,300 Northeast Ohio 6-12th graders recently submitted these and other reflections on intolerance as part of the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage annual Stop the Hate Youth Speak Out competition. Each student shared his or her experiences and ideas for effecting positive change in a 500-word essay. 'It's not just about students recognizing and evaluating instances of discrimination in their own lives,' explains Jeffery Allen, Maltz Museum Director of Education. 'We encourage them to recognize they have agency and a voice. We want them to see the role they can play in creating a more inclusive future.' (more...)
