The Music Center welcomes the return of The Joffrey Ballet to Los Angeles for a contemporary rendition of Shakespeare's timeless classic with the West Coast premiere of Romeo & Juliet.

The play has aged well. Women are, of course, still grappling with some of the issues that Heidi confronts. But it is not the specific issues that make the play last and lead me to predict that there will be revivals a century hence. One thing is for sure: the pop culture time-stamps like specific songs redolent of particular years will surely almost certainly elude our grandchildren. But the interplay between bright, somewhat idealistic people and their times is bound to continue, and stories about that interplay are bound to go on holding the attention.

The 2017-2019 season will train, and present new works from, composers Matthew Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Liliya Ugay, and Amber Vistein and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, and Sokunthary Svay. The primary focus of Composers & the Voice is to give emerging composers and librettists experience working collaboratively with singers on writing for the voice and contemporary opera stage.

The Neo-Futurists welcome five new members to the Ensemble: Neil Bhandari, Trent Creswell, Joanna Jamerson, Jasmine Henri Jordan and Connor Shioshita Pickett. These new writer-director-performers are the first ensemble members to join the company since The Neo-Futurists launched their new late-night show The Infinite Wrench March 3, 2017.
