Four recent shows at Don't Tell Mama featured performers either making their debuts on the New York cabaret scene (Evelyn Sullivan and Erin McCracken) or who returned this spring in hopeful anticipation of sharing their artistic vision with audiences (Rob Sutton and Eve Eaton). They no doubt experienced the usual anxiety, trials and tribulations before ultimately taking the stage. And they've come out on the other side relatively unscathed.

Carnegie Hall today announced that Sanford I. Weill, Chairman of Carnegie Hall's Board of Trustees since 1991, will retire from this post after 24 remarkable years of service and a total of 32 years as a Carnegie Hall trustee. Mr. Weill will continue to serve as a member of Carnegie Hall's board, transitioning to a new role as President, a title formerly held by the late violinist Isaac Stern. Mr. Weill is only the second person to hold the title of President since Carnegie Hall was established as a non-profit in 1960.

Bristol Riverside Theatre explores what it means to be an American with its production of Ragtime on March 17-April 12. The Tony Award-winning musical with book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens is directed by Keith Baker and features Leslie Becker, Derrick Cobey, David Edwards, Tamar Greene, Michael Thomas Holmes, Matt Leisy and Ciji Prosser. Supporting roles will be played by Ciaran Barlow as Edgar, Will Connell as Houdini, Jim Conte as Grandfather, Stephen Dagrosa as Willie Conklin, Sarah J. Gafgen as Emma Goldman, and Chelsey Jean as Evelyn Nesbitt. The ensemble includes Rajeer Alford, Amy L. Armstrong, Charles Michael Bendas, Daniel Bontempo, Elena Camp, John DiFerdinando, Jessica Gruver, Brian Michael Henry, Adam Hoyak, Angelica Jackson, Jessica M. Johnson, Walter E. The critically acclaimed traditional Irish musical group, Danu, comes to the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) for A Christmas Gathering: Feile Na Nollag Saturday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. For this concert, Danu will perform a mix of heartwarming and high energy traditional holiday music, such as "The Wexford Carol," one of the oldest extant Christmas carols in the European tradition; "Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake," a humorous 19th century song; "Oiche Chiuin" ("Silent Night") and more.

The debut of the Music at The Downs series was a great success, with many new people discovering the fun of seeing an outdoor concert on the infield of the track. And you couldn't ask for a better show to start with than Michael Franti's groove-heavy Soulshine tour. AMP will be back again on August 5 with the next show in the series - Ray LaMontagne.

Casting is announced for the Script in Hand playreading of 'Pack of Lies,' a provocative spy thriller, at Westport Country Playhouse, on Monday, March 10, 7 p.m. Actors, all alumni of previous Playhouse productions, include 'House of Cards' stars Jayne Atkinson and Michel Gill, and four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines, as well as Kathleen McNenny, Alexis Molnar, Mark Shanahan, and Zoe Winters. Tickets are $15. Based on a true story, the play is written by Hugh Whitemore and directed by Anne Keefe.
