Kicking off its 20th Anniversary, Deaf West Theatre puts its own, unique spin on the classic story of a mischievous puppet who wishes to become a real, live boy. Using a mix of deaf and hearing actors, Stephen Rothman directs The Adventures of Pinocchio, a commedia dell arte adaptation of Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel by Lee Hall that brims with clever political subtext and sly social commentary. Deaf West's retelling of Pinocchio's treacherous journey through childhood opens February 25 at Deaf West Theatre in North Hollywood's NoHo Arts District, with two low-priced previews on February 17 and 18. According to People.com, stage and screen star Cynthia Nixon and her fiance Christine Marinoni have welcomed a son to the family. Marinoni delivered Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni, on February 7. The couple has been engaged since 2009.

Imagine a world where the printed word is forbidden; it may by closer than you think. The first rehearsals for Jordan Harrison's cautionary tale Futura, directed by Kip Fagan, are now underway at Portland Center Stage. Futura begins previews on Tuesday, February 1, opens Friday, February 4, and runs Tuesday through Sunday until March 27. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and select Thursday matinees at noon. Hamingson, Executive Director) will launch The Public Forum, an exciting new series of lectures, debates and conversations that showcase leading voices in the arts, politics and the media.
