Just as death knells and obituaries are beginning to appear in the press for cabaret in Los Angeles (usually by inexperienced journalists in their 20s who seem to think that entertainment is restricted to their computers, IPads and IPhones), proof to the contrary arrives in the form of one Charles Busch in "THAT GIRL/ THAT BOY" at Rockwell stage and table on March 13th and 14th . by BWW News Desk - Jan 5, 2017

Ask any Jewish man, woman or child to describe a favorite memory and the response will likely to be a story about family, friends and food.  The sights, sounds, and smells all have special meaning, but it is memories of the tastes that bring the most smiles.  Food and Jewish life have been inseparable throughout history. The Old Testament says the Israelites celebrated their newfound freedom from the Pharaoh with a communal meal of roast lamb and herbs. Even since then, Jewish people and food have been linked symbolically and socially. "Ess my kind" is a universal anthem.   (more...)

BWW Review: BEIRUT ADRENALINE Gives Audiences Rawness and Reality at Downstairs At Belvoir St Theatre
by Brodie Paparella - Aug 2, 2016

Whilst much of Australian theatre is gloriously preoccupied with exporting homeland stories and home-grown talent on international platforms, there are diamonds in the rough inviting the stories from nations far flung and offering us connection to a world we often feel disconnected from down here in comparable paradise. Beirut Adrenaline transports audiences into the conflict happening in Lebanon, that has become as much a part of life as work and romance. There, Marwan Daher lives separated from his family who have escaped to Paris. From their perspective, there is a somewhat rosy glow we can identify with as fellow outsiders. Director Anna Jahjah keeps the action remarkably genuine, overlapping rushing drama with sincere humour and teary-eyed nostalgia that left a slew of audience members lost in Reminiscence, some weeping, others holding tight to their loved ones. It was truly a community being part of the audience. (more...)
