October 31, Halloween. I was walking to City Center for the opening of 'Balanchine: The City Center Years.' But then I began thinking of Stephen Sondheim's 'Follies.' You must all know the musical. Everyone returns for a reunion, only to be met with ghosts and remembrances of their past lives. After all, City Center is where New York City Ballet began in 1948. I wondered who I would encounter? I saw Allegra Kent. I think I saw two other members of the company who danced on New York City Ballet's opening night 70 years ago? But perhaps I'd encounter some of the other principal dancers of that time: Maria Tallchief on the stairs? Or Tanaquil Le Clercq at the bar? Or Frank Hobi? Francisco Moncion? Nicholas Magallenes? Yvonne Mounsey? Diana Adams?

Boasting a slew of festive participants from places across the globe including The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Switzerland and even The North Pole, the 85th Annual Uncle Dan's Thanksgiving Day Parade is set to bring more than 20 talented marching bands, 13 festive floats, 16 staged theatrical performances, 11 equestrian groups, several cultural groups, inflatables, celebrity guests, thousands of dedicated volunteers and more to Chicago for the 2018 parade. One of the most popular holiday celebrations in the city and the country, taking place Thursday, November 22, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., this free, family-friendly parade runs on State Street from Congress to Randolph in an annual celebration with sights and sounds for attendees of all ages.

With the holiday season fast approaching Arena Stage is readying their annual Gold Standard Musical. This year it's the classic ship shape Cole Porter musical from 1934, Anything Goes. The production begins performances on November 2nd and plays through December 23rd in the Fichandler space.

Choreographer Parker Esse is responsible for not only ensuring that happens, but also for making sure that the moves of the characters onboard the S.S. American are not only de-lovely, but the tops!

The Apollo Theater is proud to present a special one night only concert featuring the return of hip-hop mega group and Harlem's own The Diplomats, popularly known as Dipset as they reunite to launch a new album. The special event will take place on November 23 at 8 p.m.

On Dec. 9, the Apollo Theater will celebrate 30 years of the ground-breaking New Jack Swing sound and will welcome home Harlem natives Teddy Riley and Keith Sweat for The Kings and Queens of New Jack Swing. This special evening will mark their first time performing at the legendary Apollo in over 20 years. Riley and Sweat will be joined by pioneers of the sound, including, Guy, Blackstreet, Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee and more to be announced.  More than a concert, The Kings and Queens of New Jack Swing underscores The Apollo's commitment to celebrating the contributions of African American artists and the Theater's role in the American and global musical landscape.

The Apollo Theater and SiriusXM announced today that they will present Say It Loud…With Your VOTE!, a bi-partisan political special at the Apollo on Thursday, November 1 at 7:00 pm.  The exclusive event, produced in association with SiriusXM, is part of the Apollo Theater Uptown Hall series and will air across multiple SiriusXM channels debuting on November 2.    

The Apollo Theater announced today that Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Alice Smith will headline the Apollo's WOW – Women of the World Festival. The performance, featuring new music from her upcoming Full LP Mystery set to release at the end of 2018, is a part of the 3rd annual gathering of artists, activists, and leaders from around the globe at the Apollo Theater beginning March 12 and running through March 17, 2019.  Smith will bring her intoxicating mix of R&B, pop and rock along with a special musical tribute to the world famous Apollo Theater stage on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 8pm.

The Public Theater presents the North American premiere of Girl from the North Country. Written and directed by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson with music and lyrics by music icon Bob Dylan, Girl from the North Country weaves the music of our greatest poet-singer-songwriter into a piercing drama about home, heart, and the searching determination of the American soul. This new musical has been extended three times and will now run through Sunday, December 23.

Actors Co-op Theatre Company (Ovation Award-Winner 2017 Best Play, Intimate Theatre for 33 Variations) presents the first show in its 27th Season with the thriller ROPE, written by Patrick Hamilton, directed by Ken Sawyer, produced by Kevin Shewey.  ROPE will preview on Thursday, September 20 at 8pm and will open Friday, September 21 at 8pm and run through Sunday, October 29 at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. Gower St. 90028 (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.

Hale Centre Theatre's season-opening production of THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, directed by the inimitable Cambrian James ~ is two and a half hours of spirited story-telling, featuring a bravura performance by Austin Delp as the heroic Sir Percy Blakeney. Show runs through October 6th.

Presented by a brand new Production group, 4 Leaf Music Productions, in Association with Golden Performing Arts Center, and based on a 1934 Kaufman and Hart play of the same name, this musical tells the story of three friends, Franklin, Charley, and Mary, and the progressive decadence of their bonds and their dreams. The story is told in reverse. When it begins, in 1980, they're in their 40's: Franklin, is a rich, successful, conceited and confused noted songwriter; Charley, the lyricist in the duo, has cut off ties with his partner after a nervous breakdown and Mary is a lonely alcoholic still secretly in love with Franklin from when they first met, years and years ago. As we move forward in the play but backwards in time, we see how their friendships disintegrate, along with their aspirations and Franklin's many whirlwind marriages. Rewinding through the '70s and '60s, we end up in 1957, when the three of them meet for the first time, on a rooftop in the city, all hopeful young talents per-chance gathering to watch Sputnik go by in the pre-dawn sky. The song they sing, 'Our Time' ('We're the movers, we're the shapers/ the names in tomorrow's papers'), is undercut by some very keen irony, since we've already seen how it all turns out, at the beginning.

Mint Theater will open Days to Come by Lillian Hellman on Sunday August 26th. Performances have been extended through October 6th at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).

Beginning tomorrow, July 28, designer, director, master puppeteer, and MacArthur "genius" Basil Twist will perform in his singular creation, Symphonie Fantastique, during all Saturdayevening performances. The 20th-anniversary production, which has received near universal acclaim and is scheduled to close on September 2, will include Twist on July 28, August 4, 11, 18, 25 and September 1 at 8:30pm. Set to Hector Berlioz's revolutionary 1830 score, Symphonie Fantastique, for the first time in New York, features live piano accompaniment by Christopher O'Riley. Hailed as a creative masterpiece when it debuted in 1998, the production, which opened on April 4, is a presentation from HERE's Dream Music Puppetry Program and a centerpiece of HERE's 25th anniversary season.

Stifel (STEE-full) Financial Corp. has entered into a 10-year building naming-rights agreement to rename Peabody Opera House as "Stifel Theatre."  The partnership, which further solidifies the historic entertainment venue's status in downtown St. Louis, is an extension of Stifel Financial Corp.'s more than 125-year history of civic spirit and leadership in St. Louis.  

Fine wine importer Opici Wines welcomes Vinosìa Aziende Agricole from Campania to Opici's growing Italian portfolio. Though briefly in the U.S. with various other importers, Vinosìa will now be carried exclusively by Opici Wines. The launch will be backed by a multi-year sales and marketing plan developed in tandem with New York City-based Three Tier Partners (TTP), with roll-out due to go into effect this summer.

Carnegie Hall today announced that a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), led by its Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, has been added to its 2018-2019 season line-up. The concert, scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, will be the National Symphony's first Carnegie Hall performance since Mr. Noseda began his tenure as the orchestra's music director in fall 2017.
