2014 BLUE NOTE JAZZ FESTIVAL and More Coming to the Blue Note in June 2014

Blue Note Jazz Club, one of the world's most iconic jazz and blues venues based in Greenwich Village, is proud to announce its June 2014 schedule. All June performances at Blue Note Jazz Club will be featured as part of the fourth annual, 2014 Blue Note Jazz Festival, scheduled to take place Sunday, June 1 through Monday, June 30 (with over 150 performances at more than 15 venues throughout New York City).

Peruvian born artist Ramiro Llona uses color as his instrument for what has been called 'inner landscapes,' where structure and expression coincide. UTOPIA celebrates that color through a unique selection of works from his most important period, the 80s.

From May 22 - June 1, 2014 Houston Ballet offers up a mixed repertory program showcasing works by three of the twentieth century's greatest choreographers entitled Modern Masters. The program features the company premiere of Jir?i? Kylia?n's comic and delightful Sechs Ta?nze (Six Dances), along with revivals of his playful and sexy work Petite Mort, William Forsythe's explosive In the middle, somewhat elevated and George Balanchine's complex and inventive The Four Temperaments. Houston Ballet will give six performances of the program in the Brown Theater at Wortham Theater Center. Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for recent Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Appearing in titles roles are Resident Actor Jeffrey Bean as Vanya, Sharon Lockwood returning to the Alley as Sonia, Alley Artist Josie de Guzman returning as Masha, and Resident Actor Jay Sullivan as Spike. Rounding out the cast and making their Alley debuts are Rachael Holmes as Cassandra and Sarah Nealis as Nina. Jonathan Moscone, Artistic Director of California Shakespeare Theater, helms the production and returns after having directed the Alley's 2011 production of Amadeus.

Tonight, April 24, the Houston Symphony will perform their annual Spec's Charitable Foundation Salute to Educator's Concert at Jones Hall. The concert celebrates local educators - music and classroom teachers alike - while spotlighting young musicians. Led by Houston Symphony Associate Conductor Robert Franz, the orchestra will open the evening's festivities with Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante for Cello and Orchestra, featuring 18-year-old Charles Seo, Houston native and Gold Medal winner of the 2013 Houston Symphony League Concerto Competition. Following intermission, the orchestra will be joined by the Houston Youth Symphony in a special side-by-side performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor.

Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for Alan Ayckbourn's science fiction comedy Communicating Doors. Eleven plays penned by Alan Ayckbourn have been produced by the Alley, including the American premiere of Henceforward, directed by Ayckbourn, in 1987 and House & Garden in 2002. Alan Ayckbourn has been inducted into the American Theatre's Hall of Fame, received the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for Services to the Arts, became the first British playwright to receive both Olivier and Tony Special Lifetime Achievement Awards and was knighted in 1997 for services to the theatre.

The Old Vic today announced its programme for Summer/Autumn 2014. The CQS Space, The Old Vic in the round, will be home to the whole season of productions, continuing after Other Desert Cities which opens this month. The plays will be performed in the round, a transformation of The Old Vic's auditorium first seen for the award-winning 2008 production of The Norman Conquests. The season of productions is supported for the fourth consecutive year by Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Artistic Director Molly Smith tackles a unique, in-the-round staging of Bertolt Brecht's powerhouse anti-war play Mother Courage and Her Children at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Iconic stage and screen actress and Academy Award nominee Kathleen Turner returns to Arena Stage following her sold-out run of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins to make her professional singing debut as the tough-as-nails matriarch Mother Courage-a single mother determined to keep her family alive and her business afloat during war. Using the David Hare translation, the show fuses politics and satire to paint an unforgettable and provocative portrait of war, incorporating more than 10 pieces of original music composed in a rollicking, gypsy-punk style and performed by cast members doubling as musicians. Mother Courage and Her Children runs January 31-March 9, 2014 in the Fichandler Stage.

State Theatre Named Official Toys for Tots Drop-Off Location

Located at 453 Northampton St in Easton, the State Theatre will house a donation box in its Box Office lobby through December 14th. Visitors to the theatre can drop off a new, unwrapped toy when they purchase tickets, come for a show or at any time the Box Office is open. The State Theatre Box Office is open Monday thru Friday from 10AM -4PM and at least two hours prior to every show.
