Excerpts from Yunus Emre (1946), an oratorio composed by Ahmed Adnan Saygun, the most important Turkish classical music composer of the twentieth century, will be performed at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall at 8 PM tonight, October 17, 2015 as part of MidAtlantic Opera and Seton Hall University's co-production entitled A Prayer for Peace. This rarely-heard piece will be sung in Turkish by the 100-voice Seton Hall University choir.

The Mannes Orchestra, the student orchestral ensemble of Mannes College at The New School, and the New York Choral Society will join forces to perform John Adams' On The Transmigration of Souls and Paul Hindemith's When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd, April 8 at Carnegie Hall. David Hayes, who leads both groups, will conduct the performance of these two masterpieces, both of which are inspired by profound historic events and celebrate the strength and resilience of the American spirit. On The Transmigration of Souls will feature the critically acclaimed Young People's Chorus of New York City. When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd will showcase the soloists Abigail Fischer (mezzo-soprano) and Lee Poulis (baritone).

New York Choral Society to Play Carnegie Hall & More During 2014-15 Season

Music Director David Hayes has announced the New York Choral Society's (NYCS) 56th concert season. For the holiday season the New York Choral Society will present Christmas Around New York on December 10 at 6:30 pm at Saint Peter's Church, Lexington Avenue at 54th St. and on Sunday, December 14, at 3:00 pm at Snug Harbor Cultural Center. The program, performed with brass and organ includes an arrangement of O Come, O Come Emmanuel and a Magnificat by Pachelbel along with more contemporary works by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon and the popular Christmas Cantata by Daniel Pinkham.
