The smash-hit French musical returns to London for 7 performances only, after touring in 23 countries worldwide in nine languages over the last 20 years.

Based on Victor Hugo’s novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Notre Dame de Paris tells the story of the cathedral bell-ringer Quasimodo and his tragic love for the beautiful gypsy dancer Esmeralda.

This stage spectacular features an internationally acclaimed cast of singers, dancers, acrobats and a live orchestra, as well as unforgettable music composed by Richard Cocciante, with lyrics by Luc Plamondon.

As it became popular throughout the world, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME became a beloved Disney story which later became a stage production. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz added new music to be included in this production. The Playhouse San Antonio was privileged to present the Texas premiere to a full theater. Cinquant'anni fa debuttava al Sistina l'opera beat di Tito Schipa jr. 'THEN AN ALLEY', considerata il primo esperimento al mondo di Opera Rock. La scelta del titolo (che si traduce 'E poi una strada') fu quasi profetica, perche quello fu il primo passo di un cammino che porto alla rifondazione del genere operistico attraverso spettacoli come 'Tommy', 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Starmania', 'Notre-Dame de Paris' e tanti altri. Spettacoli anche molto diversi tra loro (opere rock, opere popolari, opere prog eccetera) accomunati pero da una drammaturgia che recupera quella del melodramma. Ci sarebbe quasi da commuoversi all'idea che un anniversario del genere cada a pochi giorni dal 450° compleanno di Monteverdi, uno dei padri fondatori del genere operistico classico, se non fosse per una cosa. Perche l'Opera Moderna fatica a prendere piede in Italia? (more...)

Based on the novel written by Victor Hugo, Notre Dame de Paris has been a best-selling musical in Korea for the past few years. The Ogunquit Playhouse in southern Maine has been setting the bar higher and higher with each new production under Bradford T. Kenney, artistic director. What used to be a quintessential ocean-side summer stock house now operates from May through November, often mounting New England, and occasionally national, regional premieres. Its current musical, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, is the company's most ambitious venture yet. Adapted from the 1996 Disney animated film which was based on the classic Victor Hugo novel "Notre Dame de Paris," the Ogunquit production boasts a towering vaulted set design, a 21-member cast of Broadway veterans, and a tremendous 32-member choir.
