The Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College will present Jeffrey Gibson: This Is the Day from September 8 through December 9, 2018, featuring over 50 works of sculpture, painting, installation, and video made between 2014 and 2018, a number of which were made expressly for this exhibition. As part of the exhibition, the Wellin will debut a new film that the Museum commissioned from Gibson. Other new works in the exhibition include a group of five elaborately adorned helmets that will be presented to the public for the first time at the Wellin, alongside a series of seven large-scale sculptural garments, draped on tipi poles, which will hang from the gallery ceiling. The exhibition is curated by Tracy L. Adler, Johnson-Pote Director of the Wellin Museum of Art, and will travel to the Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin in 2019, facilitated by Veronica Roberts, the Blanton's Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.

The world-famous Pageant Of The Masters, a theatrical celebration of great art recreated in tableaux vivants, and celebrating its' 85th anniversary of 'living pictures' as part of Laguna Beach's Festival of Arts, is in full bloom in Laguna Beach, with performances nightly through September 1. This season's theme is 'Under The Sun'. The Pageant began as a publicity gimmick for the second Festival of Arts in 1933 but quickly grew into a summer tradition that now attracts over 140,000 patrons every summer. On Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 8pm, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) presents a special, free preview concert by Grammy-nominated vocalist Theo Bleckmann and jazz guitarist Ben Monder, part of BMCM+AC's celebration of its new permanent home at 120 College St. in downtown Asheville. For over 15 years, the Theo Bleckmann & Ben Monder Duo has toured the U.S., Europe, and Asia creating a unique approach to what might be called 'jazz art song,' blurring the boundaries between jazz, classical, ambient and rock.

Music Mountain, America's longest running summer chamber music festival, continues its 89th season with another weekend of extraordinary music. The all-female Cassatt String Quartet, with guest artist Paul Katz, cello offer a program featuring Borodin; Shostakovich; and Schubert on Sunday, August 26 (3pm). The weekend music begins with first time guests Amina Figarova Quintet playing her original jazz compositions on Saturday evening, August 25 (6:30pm). Concerts are scheduled through September 23.

The Mississippi Museum of Art (the Museum) announces that it will present Jeffrey Gibson: Like A Hammer, the first major survey of work by contemporary artist Jeffrey Gibson (b. 1972), from September 8, 2018 through January 27, 2019, in its Gertrude C. Ford Galleries for the Permanent Collection. Organized by and currently on view at the Denver Art Museum (DAM), Like A Hammer showcases Gibson's acclaimed multi-disciplinary work from 2011 to the present. The exhibition is being presented with generous support from the Selby and Richard McRae Foundation.

From the author of Shakespeare in Love, Tom Stoppard's Arcadia is considered one of the greatest plays of its time. It runs August 16 - 25 in the Marian Theatre and August 30 - September 9 in the Solvang Festival Theater. 

Deafinitely Theatre and New Diorama Theatre today announce a new production of Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis. Artistic Director of Deafinitely Theatre, Paula Garfield, directs Adam Bassett, Brian Duffy, Jim Fish and Matt Kyle. Opening at New Diorama Theatre on 21 September, with previews from 18 September and running until 13 October. The production then tours to Derby Theatre from 19 - 20 October.

Designed and directed by Jeff Becker, who leads a team of fellow New Orleans-based artists, Sea of Common Catastrophe follows three long-time residents of a tiny seaside town whose lives are uprooted when a compelling stranger arrives. Inspired by a passage from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novella Sea of Lost Time-where a town drowns on a Sunday afternoon but persists, submerged, in its daily life, as if the deluge had never occurred-Sea of Common Catastrophe uses spectacular lighting and video, live music, and an innovative two-story set to evoke a changing landscape of upscale living and chic restaurants that suddenly transforms into a magical sunken world.
