Written by distinguished Canadian M tis playwright Marie Clements, with a gripping score by JUNO Award-winning composer Brian Current, this work confronts the immense tragedy of more than 1,200 missing and murdered First Nations, Inuit and M tis women and girls in Canada, and the devastation to communities and families both First Nations and non-First Nations left to grapple with their loss.

There's a new demon barber in town... The Tooting Arts Club production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street recently welcomed Hugh Panaro as its new leading man.

There's no place like home at least according to playwright Samm-Art Williams. First produced to great acclaim by the Negro Ensemble Company, Williams' brilliantly inventive and lyrically expressive Home will run at International City Theatre from Oct. 20 through Nov. 5, directed by Gregg T. Daniel. Two low-priced previews take place on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, playwright, actor, author, screenwriter, and director Sam Shepard has passed away. Shepard, who had been ill with ALS for some time, died peacefully on July 27 at his home in Kentucky, surrounded by his children and sisters. He was 73 years old.

 The Mountain Play Association, the San Francisco Bay Area's most magical outdoor theater experience, will present the timeless classic Disney's Beauty and the Beast directed by Jay Manley for their 104th season. Based on the French fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST tells the story of a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love. Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will take place every Sunday from May 21 to June 18, 2017.

It is the story of Quanah Parker, the last Comanche chief, his mother Cynthia Ann Parker and the Parker Family settling in Texas and the survival and ascendancy of the great Comanche people.  It is, in part, a tragic, sad, heartbreaking story-a story of war, bloodshed, death and heartbreak-but it is, more importantly, a story celebrating the strength and power of the human spirit. Gatlin's wife Janis-who says he is never wrong-believes that it is the best music he has ever written.

Theater Breaking Through Barriers, who scored a hit this past summer with Samuel D. Hunter's The Healing, will kick off its 38th season with the World Premiere of THE OTHER PLAYS: SHORT PLAYS ABOUT THE OTHERNESS IN OUR SOCIETY, a bill of new short works by playwrights Dennis A. Some, others, many and bloody well everyone need to strap themselves in for Paramount Theatre's bold new production of Sweeney Todd-The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Ars Nova and WP Theater are pleased to present the world premiere of Sundown, Yellow Moon (February 28-April 1), a nighttime play, with songs, by Rachel Bonds, directed by Anne Kauffman (OBIE and Drama Desk Award winner), with songs by the indie-folk duo The Bengsons (Hundred Days) and additional lyrics by Bonds.
