Main Street Theatre Works Presents THE 39 STEPS

The finest radio dramas of the 1930's was The Mercury Theater On The Air, founded by Orson Welles and John Houseman. Together, they presented many classic pieces of literature, and shook the country with it's terrifying staging of "War of the Worlds." Main Street Theatre Works (MSTW) is re-creating one of these literary classic radio plays, The 39 Steps, complete with live sound effects. This limited-engagement fundraiser will have two matinee performances ~ Saturday & Sunday, October 20th & 21st, and one evening performance on that Saturday night, at the Native Sons Hall in Sutter Creek. Tickets are $25 and include a dessert bar, coffee or tea, and the show. A no-host wine bar will be available Saturday. (more...)

O'Neill Center Issues Call for Submissions to 2019 National Playwrights Conference

The National Playwrights Conference was established in 1964 as the founding program of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Led by NPC Artistic Director Wendy C. Goldberg, the conference supports playwrights during the creation and development of new plays. Writers of selected works will receive a July 2019 residency with a stipend, housing, meals, and transportation to support an intensive rehearsal process and two script-in-hand public readings with a professional cast and creative team. NY Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, also known as 'Thor,' throws down the hammer this week on the set of HISTORY's 'Vikings' in Ireland where he will guest star in one episode in season six of the hit drama series. Syndergaard will play the character 'Thorbjorn,' a Viking warrior who is loyal to Ivar the Boneless, who he sees as a God on earth. PBS today unveiled a list of America's 100 best-loved novels, chosen in support of THE GREAT AMERICAN READ, a new PBS series and multi-platform initiative that celebrates the joy of reading and the books we love. THE GREAT AMERICAN READ, hosted by television personality and journalist Meredith Vieira, launches with a two-hour episode today, May 22, 2018, at 8 p.m. on PBS stations and will introduce viewers to the full list of America's 100 favorite novels selected through a demographically representative national survey conducted by YouGov. The series will also feature interviews with celebrities, authors, superfans and everyday Americans discussing the way particular books have influenced them and their significance in American popular culture. Then, after a multi-platform initiative throughout the summer, which will include live public events, social media components and national reading clubs, the series will resume in the fall with several themed episodes, including an exciting finale, culminating in the first-ever national vote to choose 'America's Best-Loved Novel.' It will be the most expansive national celebration of books and reading aimed at engaging multi-generational readers across multiple platforms ever created. (more...)

BREAKING: Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennett To Lead Cast Of Goodspeed Musicals' CYRANO

Goodspeed is assembling a stellar cast for Cyrano an inspired new take on the Edmond Rostand classic Cyrano de Bergerac. Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Peter Dinklage will develop the title role and film actress Haley Bennett will play Roxanne in this bold new musical. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. This exciting musical is adapted by Erica Schmidt in collaboration with members of the Grammy Award-winning indie alternative band The National. Cyrano will run August 3 - September 2, 2018 at The Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. (more...)

Fulton Theatre Mounts Biggest Production Yet THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

On June 5, 2018, the Fulton Theatre launches The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the theatre's season finale and biggest production of the 2017/2018 season.  The Hunchback of Notre Dame will also be one of the largest shows in the theatre's one hundred sixty six year history. Over ninety cast and choir members will take the stage amidst soaring bell towers, a gypsy village, and the bustling streets of fifteenth century Paris. Full casting was announced today for Pride Films and Plays' production of Joe DiPietro's FUCKING MEN, which will begin a two-month run in the Broadway, Pride Arts Center, on July 1. In this present-day updating of Schnitzler's LA RONDE, ten men - a hustler, a soldier, two college students, a businessman and his husband, an adult film actor, a movie star, his agent and a playwright - all have physical and emotional desires to connect. Pride Films and Plays Executive Director David Zak, who will direct the production, announced the cast today.
