GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI! Down in the right-hand corner of my computer screen, it tells me that its Friday, May 19 - which means that Memorial Day Weekend is just a week away! - how in the world did we make it from New Year's Day to Memorial Day in what seems to me to be like 15 minutes? When you figure that out, please give me a heads-up so I can better prepare for Christmas shopping! And that, of course, has me wondering what shows we'll be seeing during the next holiday season which, in turn, prompts me to ask the musical question: What's your favorite Christmas or holiday-themed stage offering?

Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, guest vocalists and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh in Gustav Mahler's groundbreaking Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection," as part of the BNY Mellon Grand Classics at Heinz Hall on June 2-4.

The Sundance Film Festival travels from the snow-capped peaks of Park City, Utah to the summer sun of Los Angeles for the fifth Sundance NEXT FEST, August 10-13. The movie and music festival celebrates the renegade spirit of independent artists in one of the most remarkable and historic gems in the city - The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, a bold and loving reanimation of a 1920s movie palace. Each movie will be paired with exclusive, dynamic live elements, including musical performances and provocative conversations with filmmakers and cinema-world favorites.

ERRATICA, the international new British music theatre company, will bring the world premiere of Remnants to the Print Room at the Coronet, this summer. With previews starting on 12 June as part of InTRANSIT Festival, this production tells the true story of one woman's experience of the aftermath of the Srebrenica massacre, and her family's connection to the Holocaust in Bosnia 50 years before.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre hosts the spectacular Cirque Eloize alongside Festival favourite Nina Conti and contemporary dance show Requiem for Aleppo as part of the Pleasance's Edinburgh Fringe programme this August. This programme marks the launch of a brand new partnership between the two venues.

This May, in celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright's 150th anniversary, UNESCO World Heritage List-nominated Hollyhock House presents a J.U.S.T. Toys Production in association with Circle X Theatre Co. of a very unique immersive event, FEFU AND HER FRIENDS, written by Maria Irene Fornes, with choreography by Zsofia Nemes, musical composition by Daniel Szabo and directed by Kate Jopson.

This August, Fringe audiences can enjoy Cirque Eloize's stunning Cirkopolis at the Pleasance, an imaginative and funny show seen by over 450,000 spectators in 100 cities in 30 countries and which won the Drama Desk Awards for Unique Theatrical Experience in 2014.

East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theatre of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, is pleased to announce its 52nd Anniversary Season, The Company We Keep, which takes place from Fall 2017 through Summer 2018 and features co-productions with Rogue Artists Ensemble, The Robey Theatre Company, Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC), and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, including two world premieres, an acclaimed revival, and the Los Angeles premiere of an award-winning Broadway musical. 

Kara Lee Corthron, playwright, novelist, and winner of multiple awards, has written a play that is teeming with too many ideas, but is also brimming with a ton of potential.

Nearly a hundred years after Aline Barnsdall first envisioned an artist colony on Olive Hill in the middle of Hollywood, the public will have a rare opportunity to experience her dream come to life. Beginning May 6th, Hollyhock House, in partnership with Circle X Theatre Co. and J.U.S.T. Toys Productions, presents the Maria Irene Fornes play FEFU AND HER FRIENDS staged as an immersive theatrical event inside Hollyhock House. It is a first for this historical beauty and an exciting project that unites the past and present in more ways than one.

TheaterWorks announced today that NEXT TO NORMAL will extend again through May 14, 2017.

New York City Opera continued the season with a rare production of Ottorino Respighi's 1927 opera La Campana Sommersa (The Sunken Bell).

The National Theatre has collaborated with eight UK arts organisations to create a new play inspired by the recent EU Referendum, presented on stage at HOME as part of a UK tour following its current run at the NT's Dorfman Theatre in London.

This major exhibition examines the modernist persona that Georgia O'Keeffe crafted for herself through her art, her dress, and her progressive, independent lifestyle.

Since opening the 2016 - 2017 season last September, New York City Opera has reestablished itself as a vital part of New York City's cultural landscape, delivering new productions, New York premieres and sold-out performances. The season opened with a critically acclaimed double bill of Leoncavallo's Pagliacci and Rachmaninoff's Aleko bringing the latter to the New York stage for the first time. In November, City Opera presented the New York premiere of Tobin Stokes' Iraq War opera, Fallujah. Last month City Opera's new production of Leonard Bernstein's Candide, directed by Broadway legend Harold Prince became a highlight of the New York season, with a run that was extended from six to ten sold-out performances.

The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport has announced its 2017-2018 Season.

Since 2011, Russell Hornsby's career has taken him to Portland, OR as Detective Hank Griffin on NBC's supernatural drama, GRIMM. However, 2016 brought him back to his roots. Though he has had considerable success on screens large and small, the actor has always found a home in the works of August Wilson. Hornsby won a Drama Desk Award as part of the cast of the original Off-Broadway cast of JITNEY in 2000, and earned a Lortel nomination in 2007 for playing the title role in KING HEDLEY II. But, it was his Broadway debut in 2010's revival of FENCES set him on his path to the Academy Awards.

A sparkling spring and early summer season of events has been announced by Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Hot on the heels of the theatre's eye-popping 250th year of celebration and its record-breaking productions, Bristol Old Vic is making its theatre fit for the next quarter of a millennium. As the Front of House redevelopment pushes forward, uncovering remarkable treasures from the past, the 2017 artistic programme has every bit of the forward-looking spirit which has kept the theatre alive for 250 extraordinary years. 

Of the three shows currently running at the Guthrie, THE ROYAL FAMILY is definitely the lightweight, longer on comedy and razzle-dazzle production values than on importance. (The other two shows are KING LEAR and PROMISE LAND, a barebones physical theater take on the Hansel and Gretel tale retold as an immigrant story.) Loosely based on the Barrymore acting clan, THE ROYAL FAMILY follows three generations of a prominent and wealthy family of performers, with particular attention to the female line.
