One of the nation's most adventurous opera companies, Odyssey Opera, continues its Tudor-inspired season with the fully-staged production of Maria, Regina d'Inghilterra (1843) by Giovanni Pacini. Mary Tudor, Queen of England is an Italian opera in three acts, from a libretto by Leopoldo Tarantini, which is based on the play Marie Tudor by Victor Hugo. This largely overlooked yet remarkable work is an interesting example of mid-19th century opera. Gil Rose conducts the Bel Canto masterwork with Amy Shoremount-Obra as Queen Mary and rising star Alisa Jordheim as Clotilde Talbot.

Commemorating the tenth anniversary of the death of playwright John McGrath, and unseen in a professional production in London since 1966, John McGrath's Events While Guarding The Bofors Gun opens at the multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre for a limited four-week season from Tuesday, 22 May 2012 directed by Robert Hastie. Merrie England plays at the Finborough Theatre for a limited run of nine Sunday and Monday evening performances and Tuesday matinees, opening tonight, 27 May 2012.

Co-Artistic Directors of Morphic Graffiti, Luke Fredericks and Stewart Charlesworth, today announce full casting for their new adaptation of William Wycherley's restoration comedy The Country Wife. Fredericks directs theatre veteran Richard Clews whose credits include King Lear, (Chichester Festival Theatre) and extensive work for the RSC and Shakespeare's Globe, Sarah Lam (Chimerica, Almeida Theatre / Harold Pinter Theatre, Lucky Man, No Problem!) and Sam Graham (Spooks, Kingdom, Footballer's Wives) who join the previously announced 'Bright Young Things' - EastEnders' Eddie Eyre, Call the Midwife's Leo Staar, West End stars Siubhan Harrison and Nancy Sullivan along with Daniel Cane, Mabel Clements and Joshua Hill completing the full company. Thrust into the excesses and seductions of late 1920s London: a city exploding with a heavy mix of jazz, gin and scandalous affairs, the production opens at Southwark Playhouse on 4 April, with previews from 28 March, and runs until 21 April.

Following the huge success of last year's festive hit The Wind in the Willows, Rose Theatre Kingston's most successful Christmas production to date, the theatre today announces its 2017 Christmas show Alice in Winterland. With a libretto by Giovanni Schmidtfrom the play The Page of Leicester by Carlo Federici,this two-act Italian opera contrasts the public and private spheres of Queen Elizabeth I. This seldom-heard work by one of opera's most beloved composers is the first of the nine Rossini Neapolitan operas. Gil Rose conducts with the soprano Serena Farnocchia as Elizabeth making her Boston debut.
