ThreatreZone Adds Three Matinees to 10th Anniversary Season

TheatreZone Artistic Director Mark Danni today announced the addition of three new performances to the non-profit professional theatre group's 10th anniversary season. Newly added shows include a matinee of Mack & Mabel on Saturday, January 17th, 2015 at 2 pm, a matinee of Sweeney Todd on Saturday, February 14th, 2015 at 2 pm, and a matinee of Brooklyn -The Musical on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2 pm. Happy Birthday, Robert Preston! best remembered for his performance as 'Professor' Harold Hill in Meredith Willson's musical The Music Man (1962). He had already won a Tony Award for his performance in the original Broadway production, in 1957. In 1965 he was the male part of a duo-lead musical, I Do! I Do! with Mary Martin, for which he won his second Tony Award. He played the title role in the musical Ben Franklin in Paris and originated the role of Henry II in the original production of The Lion in Winter. In 1974 he starred alongside Bernadette Peters in Jerry Herman's Broadway musical Mack & Mabel as Mack Sennett, the famous silent film director. That same year (1974) the film version of Mame, another famed Jerry Herman musical, was released with Preston starring, alongside Lucille Ball, in the role of Beauregard Burnside. (more...)

Klea Blackhurst, Scott Coulter, Jason Graae, and Debbie Gravitte some of Broadway's most acclaimed artist were the cast in 'Jerry Herman, The Broadway Legacy Concert' produced by ASCAP's Michael A. Popular Caroline O'Connor Joins Broadway Theatre Project 2018 Summer Faculty

Now entering its 28th year, Broadway Theatre Project (BTP) announces more 2018 visiting artists. Joining the 2018 BTP Summer Institute is Caroline O'Connor, born in Oldham, Lancashire England. At age 10, O'Connor was named Australian Irish Dance Champion and went on to train at the Royal Ballet School in London, until Anthony Warlow (Australian musical theatre actor) pointed her in the direction of musical theatre. She made her Broadway debut as Velma Kelly in Chicago, and played Mabel in Mack & Mabel, which earned her an Olivier award nomination. Currently, O'Connor is on Broadway for the musical, Anastasia as Countess Lily Malevsky at the Broadhurst Theatre. (more...)

Mack & Mabel, currently playing Chichester Festival Theatre before heading out on a UK & Ireland Tour this autumn, is transferring to the West End later this year. And, according to the New York Post, if the musical -- starring Michael Ball and Rebecca LaChance -- does well in London, it could be moving to Broadway next season. (more...)

Production photos have been released for the professional European premiere of  Rodgers & Hammerstein's ALLEGRO. The musical opened on Broadway in 1947, their third collaboration for the stage following Oklahoma! and Carousel, and has been revived by producer Danielle Tarento and director Thom Southerland, the award-winning team behind Grey Gardens, Grand Hotel, Titanic, Parade and Mack & Mabel. Southerland is working on a new adaptation of the book and the production will have brand new orchestrations. The production runs 5 August-10 September at the Large at Southwark Playhouse. (more...)
