EgoPo Classic Theater announces their 2018-19 Season: Theater of South Africa, celebrating great dramatic works of South Africa and highlighting the remarkable transformation from apartheid to democracy. The season will begin with a South African version of Eugene O'Neill's Desire Under the Elms, as created and performed by Abrahamse and Meyer Productions from Cape Town, South Africa, in partnership with Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design and their Performing Arts Department. EgoPo's mainstage season launches with A Human Being Died That Night, a gripping account of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission by psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela; followed by Three Sisters Two by Reza de Wet, a Chekhov sequel confronting the fall of privileged class; and concluding with two plays in rotation repertory: "Master Harold"…and the Boys by Athol Fugard and Egoli by Matsemela Manaka (co-produced with Theatre in the X), shining a light on two vastly different experiences under apartheid.

EgoPo Classic Theater kicks off its John Guare Festival and its 2017-2018 season with a cabaret production of the rarely seen TONY Award winning rock musical version of Two Gentleman of Verona, directed by Brenna Geffers. John Guare and Mel Shapiro did the musical adaptation from Shakespeare's comedy, with lyrics by Guare and music by Galt MacDermot. Inis Nua Theatre presents the Philadelphia Premiere of the award-winning play THE NIGHT ALIVE by Tony Award-nominated Conor McPherson. THE NIGHT ALIVE tells the story of Tommy who lives in a filthy studio apartment and survives on odd jobs around Dublin. When he rescues a young woman from her abusive boyfriend, Tommy's dilapidated home becomes a safe haven from her violent past and the tenuous friendship they build forever alters their lives. The production will be directed by Barrymore Award-nominated director and Inis Nua Founder and Artistic Director Tom Reing. Previews begin Wednesday, October 9, with opening night on Friday, October 11. The show runs through October 27, 2019 for a total of 15 performances. Producer Stuart Thompson announced today that John Guare's critically acclaimed play Six Degrees of Separation will return to Broadway this spring in a revival starring seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney ('Mom,' The Girl on the Train) as Ouisa and Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey (The Normal Heart, 'Manhattan') as Flan. The pinnacle of EgoPo's 25th Anniversary season and its season-long John Guare Festival, this epic piece of theater about an American family, set between the Civil War and the birth of the 20th-century, moves into its final part. EgoPo produced three separate production runs of each part of the trilogy, which will be followed by two weeks of three-day marathons and four opportunities for single-day marathons. EgoPo is collaborating with Guare to present all three plays, now titled Cold Harbor, Aipotu, and Madaket Road in a consecutive cycle, with music by Jay Ansill and Cynthia Hopkins.

Philadelphia Artists' Collective will conclude their 2017-2018 season with Maria Marten, or, The Murder in the Red Barn, by Anonymous, from June 6 to June 24, 2018, at The Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake. A tale of love, revenge and murder with a village idiot and the epitome of all villains, this show will make you boo, hiss, guffaw and cheer.  Dastardly deeds, family forgiveness and a Wanderer's curse all lead to one blisteringly ridiculous climax in the highest style of the Victorian melodramas. Only the highest of the low for PAC, Co-Founders Dan Hodge and Damon Bonetti will trade the roles of the fool and the villain each performance for a truly outrageous night in the theatre. Which will play the villain on opening night? Audiences can cast their vote and help decide ahead of the show. Maria Marten will be directed by Charlotte Northeast. The role of Maria will be played by PAC newcomer Victoria Aaliyah Goins, who has appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, America's Got Talent, and The Voice.

EgoPo Classic Theater in Philadelphia announces the hiring of Associate Producer, Dane Eissler, and Managing Director, Katrina Foy, arriving in July at the start of the 2019-2020 "Shepard Country" Festival Season, joining founder and Artistic Director Lane Savadove in leading the organization.  Foy succeeds Shayna Freed as Managing Director, who served in the role since 2015.  Eissler is the first in the Associate Producer role, marking a time of growth and opportunity for EgoPo's future.

EgoPo Classic Theater Presents CENSORED, two powerful plays, both banned by the South African government, to shine a light on two very different experiences of apartheid: Athol Fugard's "Master Harold"…and the Boys and Matsemela Manaka's Egoli, co-produced by Theatre in the X. EgoPo Classic Theater celebrates its 25th Anniversary with the 2017-18 John Guare Festival. As the centerpiece of the season, the company is presenting the world premiere of Guare's Lydie Breeze Trilogy. This three-part American epic can be experienced in three ways: as a three-part series spread over three months, a three-night marathon, or a one-day (nine-hour) marathon with built in meal breaks. The performances of these modern American classics begin January 31, 2018 with Part I, and will run through May 6, 2018.
