The University of Washington School of Drama will present Githa Sowerby's 1912 drama, Rutherford and Son, January 23 - February 3, 2019. Despite being a smash hit when it premiered in London in 1912, Sowerby's tale of a tyrannical patriarch who loses his grip on his children has rarely been produced in the U.S.

The Philly POPS will offer free tickets for furloughed government employees during the federal government shutdown. Award-winning music producer, critic and translator Lawrence Schulman, who lives on Mount Desert Island, Maine, will give a talk on Judy Garland, entitled 'Moments of Magic,' at the Ellsworth Public Library in Ellsworth, Maine on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 6 P.M. Admission is free. The one-and-a-quarter hour talk will examine Judy Garland's life and career, and feature nine audio-video clips, to be followed by a question and answer. Schulman will endeavor to answer the question: 'If I had about one hour to convince you of Judy Garland's place in classic American popular music, what film and television performances would I choose?'

The Athena Film Festival (AFF) at Barnard College announced today its film slate, including opening night, closing night, and centerpiece films, as well as additional programming for the 2019 festival. The ninth annual festival, co-founded by the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College and Women and Hollywood, will take place February 28 to March 3, 2019, at Barnard College in New York City. AFF showcases films, television and content that tell the extraordinary stories of fierce and fearless female leaders from all walks of life. Stories of ambition, courage, and resilience amplify the voices of strong, bold women, curating a public discourse on gender equality, and changing the cultural conventions surrounding leadership.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced today that Broadway, film, and television star Rosie O'Donnell will play Mrs. Paroo in the Broadway Center Stage production of Meredith Willson's The Music Man. O'Donnell joins Tony Award® nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess) as Harold Hill and Tony Award®–winning actress Jessie Mueller (Waitress, Carousel, Beautiful) as Marian Paroo in the starry semi-staged concert production directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful, Broadway Center Stage: How to Succeed…) with choreography by Chris Bailey (Jerry Springer: The Opera, The New Yorkers at Encores!) and music direction by James Moore (Miss Saigon, the Kennedy Center's Follies and Ragtime).

This performance is a part of The Philly POPS 40th Anniversary Season, which celebrates artists and music with connections to Philadelphia and the POPS.

Queer|Art, the New York City-based non-profit supporting the creative and professional development of LGBTQ artists, is pleased to announce the Winter 2019 season of Queer|Art|Film at IFC Center, presented by HBO. Queer|Art|Film is a monthly screening series in which some of New York's most unique artists present and discuss the films that have most inspired them. This season Queer Art's flipping the script by inviting four celebrated drag queens to present and discuss films that have inspired their craft in post-screening kikis. Curated by Adam Baran and Brooklyn drag diva Lady Quesadilla, this season entitled 'Winter's a Drag,' serves as the sequel to the 2014 Summer of Drag season. A full itinerary follows. Writer and Director Che Walker returns to the Finborough Theatre to direct the European premiere of his own play Time Is Love/Tiempo es Amor, opening at the Finborough Theatre for a four-week limited season today, 1 January 2019 (Press Nights: Thursday, 3 January and Friday, 4 January 2019 at 7.30pm).

The six-time Tony-winning Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles has graced countless stages around the world with its film adaptation garnering three Oscar nominations. The Hong Kong premiere of La Cage features a live music and enthralling music and dance, invoking the beguiling beauty of drag queens. La Cage aux Folles is adapted by Harvey Fierstein with music and original lyrics by Jerry Herman, translated and directed by Artistic Director Anthony Chan, with Cantonese lyrics translated by Chris Shum. The production is choreographed by Mohamed Drissi with music director Edgar Hung and singing supervisor Beilosi Fung. A 23-strong cast is led by guest artist Pichead Amornsomboon and Ko Hon Man, Jordan Cheung, Lau Shau Ching and Mercy Wong. The production runs from January 19th to 27th at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre. Tickets are available now from URBTIX outlets.

Former costars Rob McClure and Maggie Lakis are now coparents! The couple announced the birth of their first child, Sadie James McClure, born on Sunday December 9th at 9:16 AM. McClure and Lakis met in 2005 while performing as Doody and Frenchy in a regional production of Grease. After marrying in 2009, they went on to perform together in the National Tour of Something Rotten! as Nick Bottom and Bea in 2017.

U.S.-based British singer-songwriter Bobby Long's love of The Beatles is evident on his forthcoming new album SULTANS, due from Compass Records on March 1, 2019. The two-part title track that bookends this, his fourth album, playfully pays homage to Sgt. Pepper and the music Long heard at home growing up in rural southwest England, while this taut new 10-song set of original material effectively traverses Long's signature love, loss and heartache milieu.

A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS – THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY will be broadcast Friday, Dec. 21 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Host LL COOL J will introduce inspirational stories about children adopted from foster care, and Gwen Stefani, Train and Lukas Graham will each perform. One inspired night in 2015, singer/songwriter Kea Michaels sat down to write a poem like a lullaby entitled 'I Love You' for one of her daughters...heartfelt prose enriched with motherly adoration. She later turned that poem into a song thinking about an older daughter that had been battling, since birth, kidney hydronephrosis. KEA thought she was about to lose her to the debilitating disorder.

An incredibly talented creative team decided that the world knows the music, but it's about time we learned the story of the people behind the music. ON YOUR FEET!
