Blue Note Jazz Club, the iconic Greenwich Village jazz and blues venue that offers live musical performances every night of the week, is proud to announce an impressive roster of acts this October. Each performer is scheduled for two shows per night, 8:00 pm and 10:30 pm, unless otherwise noted. Doors open at 6:00 pm and reservations are strongly suggested. Tickets are $30 at the bar, $45 for table reservations unless otherwise noted.

The editors of Opera News are pleased to announce the honorees for the ninth annual Opera News Awards, paying tribute to five superb artists who have made invaluable contributions to the art form: director Patrice Chéreau, tenor Juan Diego Flórez, mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig, bass-baritone James Morris and soprano Nina Stemme. With King, Medlyn turns his attention to the pop star par excellence: Michael Jackson. King will contain radical reinterpretations of famous Michael Jackson songs, outside text (from Maxim Gorky's My Childhood, among other sources), some of Medlyn's personal biography and various elements of show business.

In 2005, the New York Times ran an article on romance novels, noting that romance novels were read by 51 million people a year, accounted for 49 percent of all paperback sales, and sold nearly one and a half billion dollars' worth of books annually. That's a lot of romance - and at the time, as the Times noted, the market was aimed almost exclusively at heterosexual women with heterosexual romance.
