In response to strong ticket demand, General Director Plácido Domingo has announced today that LA Opera has scheduled an additional performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute, conducted by Music Director James Conlon, on December 13 at 8:30pm to accommodate audiences who would otherwise be left out.

Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson will be honored with a handprint-footprint ceremony at the Opening Night Gala of AFI Fest 2013 presented by Audi, featuring Disney's 'Saving Mr. Banks,' in which Thompson stars as 'Mary Poppins' author P.L. Travers, on Thursday, November 7th at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

(Los Angeles) October 31, 2013 — Ethereal swaths of smoke combine to form familiar yet odd images: flowers that grow in slow motion as if by magic, elephants floating in cocktail glasses, flying flutes, dancing bells, an enigmatic black cat—anything is possible in LA Opera's new staging of Mozart's The Magic Flute. Created by the British theater group 1927 in collaboration with Barrie Kosky, artistic director of the Komische Oper in Berlin, the staging had its production premiere in that city last year, playing to sold-out houses and rave reviews. Gotham Chamber Opera presents the U.S. Stage Premiere of Baden-Baden 1927: a staged evening of four one-act operas that appeared together at the Baden-Baden Festival in 1927, from tonight, October 23-29, 2013 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater.

Asolo Repertory Theatre will open its 2013-2014 season with SHOW BOAT, based on the novel by Edna Ferber, music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. This winner of the 1994 Tony Award for best revival features a score of timeless classics, including 'Ol' Man River, 'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man' and 'Make Believe.' Previews will be held November 12 - 14 and the show will run from November 15 - December 29. Opening night will be held on Friday, November 15 at 8pm.

A virtuoso composer-performer unique among keyboardists, Carpenter's approach to the organ is smashing the stereotypes of organists and organ music while generating a level of acclaim, exposure, and controversy unprecedented for an organist. Carpenter meets his audience in person before his performances - often spending over an hour before each concert shaking hands and signing autographs on the floor of a concert venue. For his performance at the Orpheum, Carpenter will play the theater's Wurlitzer Style 240 pipe organ, which was installed when the theater was built in 1927.

CSO Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni will conduct the CSO's first performances in the Southern Theatre for the 2013-14 season, opening with the Suites & Songs program featuring guest mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer and works from Respigh, Ravel, and Peter Liberson. Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin composition pays graceful homage to Francois Couperin and the other composers of eighteenth-century France. The CSO will also perform two additional movements from the original piano suite orchestrated by Jean-Marie. Ottorino Respighi's sparkling suite Trittico Botticelliano portrays the delightful paintings of Italian master Sandro Botticelli. Audiences will also enjoy Peter Lieberson's gorgeous musical love letters derived from the sonnets of Nobel prize-winning Chilean poet Pablo Neruda in Neruda Songs, featuring Kim Harrison Hopcraft as narrator.

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra today announced the cast for On Broadway with Kander & Ebb: Celebrating Chicago, Cabaret and All That Jazz, a world premiere pops production of music from legendary and award-winning composers, John Kander (b. 1927) and Fred Ebb (1928-2004). Starring at this year's event will be Staten Island-based singer Tony Babino (known as "The Heart of Al Jolson) with Dave Gross at the Piano. Babino will be performing from 2:30-3:30. Also appearing will be Los Angeles-based entertainer Richard Halpern (called "Mr. Tin Pan Alley"), singer/songwriter Brian Gari, who is the grandson of the legendary Broadway star Eddie Cantor. This year's special guest will be the famed TV and radio talk show host Joe Franklin. There will also be a special Jolson DVD Presentation and a Society Auction consisting of donated memorabilia.
