Look Back in Anger - - West End Articles Page 20

Guest Blog: Playwright Martin Askew On THERE IS A FIELD
by Marianka Swain - Feb 19, 2019

The play is very much about love: looking for it in all the wrong and right places. It's also about the East End of London. I've tried my best to give people the sharp language and humour of the East End. Even though we're dealing with some serious issues, us Hoxton folk make light of most of life's angst. It's the rebel in us all, I suppose.

Since the 2012 production of his Hit the Wall, Holter's work has gained increasing national and international attention. In describing the "Rightlynd Saga," Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune opined that it "might just be one of the most significant literary achievements in modern-day Chicago." Even though sometimes funny, even to the extent of farce, and filled with a manic vitality, Jerusalem is not easy theater, but it is infinitely rewarding. It will be surely be one of the most ambitious shows local audiences see in this new year.

by Vicki Trask - Dec 4, 2018

Zorro is the original swashbuckling hero who always does the right thing and adheres to a personal code that drives him to help those in need. His tales have the same familiar things: the black mask to hide his face, the signature "Z" slashed across the surface, and the overwhelming balance of family and duty. Alberta Theatre Projects has followed in the footsteps of the great Zorro adventures that came before, and asked the question: what next?

BWW Review: The Power Of Ten! The Ten Tenors Raise The Roof At The McCallum Theatre
by David Green - Nov 21, 2018

After surviving a tumultuous election season and, let's face it, a pretty scathing couple of years of anger, hatred and division, sometimes you just need to grab a couple hours of joy wherever you can find it. Last night I found my joy at The McCallum Theatre as The Ten Tenors opened a six show stretch, breaking their thirty sold-out show record with standing room only attendance. They are, in fact, the most popular group in the history of the McCallum Theatre. (In fact, as they proclaim from the stage, they consider The McCallum their 'home away from home') And there is no doubt as to why.. Their stunning vocal prowess in combination with slick production and wry Aussie humor makes for an evening that is both the icing and the cake!

Led by their adventurously thirsty artistic director, they embark on an explosive new play with the hope of finally breaking it big. When the ensemble realizes their source material might not be as original as once assumed, they are thrust into an intense confrontation with residents of their new community, who not only want them out, but will take their story back by any means necessary. Red Rex is the sixth play in Ike Holter's seven part 'Rightlynd Saga," which also includes Exit Strategy, Prowess, and The Wolf at the End of the Block.
