Chance Theater presents the fifth show of its 15th Anniversary Season - a family-friendly holiday offering The Secret Garden - The Musical with book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Marsha Norman, music by Tony Award nominee Lucy Simon, and directed by Casey Long and KC Wilkerson. Pountney's production will have its U.S. premiere on January 18, 2014 at Houston Grand Opera.

Today, November 17 at 2 p.m., Nick Dowen will present an hour-long program on the life of opera great Ezio Pinza. Dowen, who has been collecting records since he was 13 years old, will share some of his thousands of recordings in a powerpoint presentation about the life of one of the most prolific singers in the history of music. A bass with a rich, smooth and sonorous voice, Pinza spent 22 seasons at New York's Metropolitan Opera, appearing in more than 750 performances of 50 operas. A popular recording star, Pinza went on to appear on Broadway, in Hollywood movies, and on television in his own series and daytime variety shows that were popular in the 1950s.

The Laurie Beechman theatre was filled to capacity on Monday, November 4th for the Emerson College BFA Showcase featuring the BFA Acting and BFA Musical Theatre Class of 2013. Industry professionals hoping to find new cast members for their next projects and Emerson Alumni showed up to support and welcome the talented group to show business. On January 18, 2014, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) presents the American premiere of The Passenger (1968), a powerful Holocaust opera by exiled Polish-Jewish composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg. Based on a novel by Auschwitz survivor Zofia Posmysz, The Passenger was recognized as "a perfect masterpiece" by Shostakovich but was censored by the Soviet establishment and never performed in Weinberg's lifetime. It premiered at the 2010 Bregenz Festival, and its subsequent UK premiere at the English National Opera took place only thanks to award-winning British director David Pountney, whose staging inspired the Telegraph to write: "Risky though it may be to label a first production 'definitive,' it is hard to imagine it ever being done better." Now HGO brings the same production across the Atlantic, complete with mezzo-soprano Michelle Breedt, who "excelled" (New York Times) in the leading role at two European premieres. All five of The Passenger's first American performances (Jan 18-Feb 2) will be led byPatrick Summers, HGO's artistic and music director.

Music Director Alan Gilbert opens the New York Philharmonic's 2013-14 season with the Opening Gala concert, headlined by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, tonight, September 25, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Gilbert will conduct Mr. Ma and the Orchestra in two works by Argentinian composers: the World Premiere of Octavio Brunetti's arrangement, commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, of a suite from Astor Piazzolla's La serie del Ángel, and Osvaldo Golijov's Azul, composed for the eminent cellist. The program opens with Ravel's Alborada del gracioso and closes with Bolero, two pieces that reflect the French composer's fascination with Spain. The concert will be telecast nationally on Live From Lincoln Center at a later date, and Classical 105.9 FM WQXR at 7:30 p.m.

CSO Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni will conduct the CSO's first performances in the Southern Theatre for the 2013-14 season, opening with the Suites & Songs program featuring guest mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer and works from Respigh, Ravel, and Peter Liberson. Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin composition pays graceful homage to Francois Couperin and the other composers of eighteenth-century France. The CSO will also perform two additional movements from the original piano suite orchestrated by Jean-Marie. Ottorino Respighi's sparkling suite Trittico Botticelliano portrays the delightful paintings of Italian master Sandro Botticelli. Audiences will also enjoy Peter Lieberson's gorgeous musical love letters derived from the sonnets of Nobel prize-winning Chilean poet Pablo Neruda in Neruda Songs, featuring Kim Harrison Hopcraft as narrator.

It was announced today that the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography CAMERIMAGE, which takes place in Bydgoszcz, Poland November 16 - 23, is partnering with the American Film Institute (AFI) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) to showcase select, award-winning festival films as part of its 4th Camerimage Winners Show in Los Angeles in January.

The Joffrey Ballet kicks off its 2013-14 'Masters of Dance' season with a special addition to its home engagement line-up, a one-weekend-only program titled 'Russian Masters' celebrating the centennial of Vaslav Nijinsky's ground-breaking 1913 ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), alongside George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante and two works byYuri Possokhov, the Chicago Premiere of Adagio and the return of his 2011 Joffrey commission, Bells. The world premiere of The Tallest Tree in the Forest, a new work about the life of African-American performer and activist Paul Robeson, written and performed by Daniel Beaty and directed by Moises Kaufman, opens tonight, September 6 at Kansas City Repertory Theatre.

Roundabout Theatre Company has officially announced that Oscar nominee Michelle Williams will star for the first time on Broadway as 'Sally Bowles' in its upcoming production of Cabaret. She will take the stage at Studio 54 alongside Alan Cumming as the Emcee, reprising the role that won him a Tony Award in 1998.
