The Old Globe's 2016 Summer Season Will Include Steve Martin's METEOR SHOWER, Plus Kathleen Marshall-Helmed LOVE'S LABOR'S LOST

The Old Globe today shared its 2016 Summer Season, which will feature new and familiar works directed by four major American stalwarts. The season features the welcome return of Steve Martin (Bright Star) with the World Premiere of his new play Meteor Shower, an adult comedy, directed by Gordon Edelstein, in a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, where he serves as Artistic Director. Paul Gordon's musical Sense and Sensibility will have its West Coast premiere, presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it had its world premiere in February 2015, directed by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines. The Summer Shakespeare Festival will include Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company, and Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall. Following its celebrated opening at Seattle Repertory Theatre, Pullman Porter Blues travels across the country to sweep D.C. audiences along for a ride in its world-premiere co-production at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Inspired by her grandfather's work on the postal trains, playwright Cheryl L. West, whose work at Arena Stage includes Jar the Floor and Play On!, returns with the tale of three Pullman train porters whose journey is underscored by Midwest blues songs, including "Sweet Home Chicago" and "This Train." Following its acclaimed 16-week run at the Lookingglass Theatre Company this fall, Metamorphoses brings the mythical tales of Ovid to life at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, 10 years after the Broadway premiere. Written and directed by Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman, Metamorphoses is based on David Slavitt's translation and marks the first time Zimmerman will direct the production since its Broadway run. This is also the first time Zimmerman will stage Metamorphoses in the round, and a custom set will be designed with the largest pool of water ever created for this production. East Lynne Theatre Company Presents ASL Performance of DRACULA 8/26

On Friday, August 26 at 8:30 p.m., there will be an American Sign Language Interpretation of 'Dracula' produced by the award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company. Since the early 1990s, ELTC has offered regularly scheduled ASL performances, as well as ASL performances upon request. The theatrical ASL interpreters are Gina Lanza, who has performed many times for ELTC, and Amy Anderson, who teaches ASL at Ocean City High School. The process involves them seeing the production at least once, plus going over the script several times to figure out who will interpret which roles, and in many cases, developing signs unique to the production for unusual names and words. The ASL interpreters do not distract audience members who do not require this service.   (more...)
