The sorry story of Livent came to a close in a Toronto courtroom today as Ontario Superior Court Justice Mary Lou Benotto delivered her judgment. 'The creative success that you achieved due to your company was spectacular,' said Benotto. But her tone quickly changed as she cited a 'deliberate misrepresentation' in Livent's public offering and 'widespread and long-standing' fraud thereafter. 'I have been satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that you knew what was happening . . . That's a guilty verdict.'

Signature Theatre's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer today announced Signature's 20th anniversary season, saluting the two decades that have led the company to its position as one of the nation's leading forces in musical theater. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will present Terrence McNally's Nights at the Opera - an event showcasing three of the playwright's works including Master Class, The Lisbon Traviata, and Golden Age concurrently in Kennedy Center theaters from March 20 - April 18, 2010. The New York Times has reported that Tony winner Rob Ashford will lend his talents to director Baz Luhrmann's staging for Hugh Jackman's opening number for the 81st Annual Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on December 12th, 2008, that Hugh Jackman will host this year's Oscar telecast. Producer Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and co-producers Tulchin/Bartner/Jenkins, Bill Kenwright, Northwater Entertainment, Darren Bagert, and Tom Gregory announced the complete cast and design team for the new Broadway production of the greatest musical comedy GUYS AND DOLLS. The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, GUYS AND DOLLS will begin previews on February 3, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). The Signature Theatre has announced the complete cast for 'The Visit' the Kander and Ebb musical starring Chita Rivera and George Hearn.

The Signature Theatre continues its national Kander and Ebb Celebration with a new production of the Broadway greats' forgotten musical The Happy Time, performed in Signature's 110-seat ARK Theatre. The Happy Time is part of a four-month celebration of the works of John Kander and Fred Ebb, the longest song-writing partnership in the history of the American musical theater. The Happy Time plays Tuesday, April 1 through Sunday, June 1, in repertory with Kiss of the Spider Woman in The MAX Theatre (through April 20), then The Visit (May 13 - June 22).

Broadway legend Chita Rivera is coming to Boston to be honored for her stage and screen achievements at Boston Youth Moves' annual fundraising gala, Swellegance. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bebe Neuwirth and Rob Marshall will be on hand to honor Ms. Rivera and her illustrious career. The Eighth Annual Boston Youth Moves fundraising gala, Swellegance, will take placeon Saturday, March 8, at the Sheraton Boston Hotel, 39 Dalton St.

Eric Schaeffer, artistic director of Signature Theatre, announced today that two-time Tony® winner George Hearn will join another two-time Tony® winner Chita Rivera for Kander & Ebb's musical The Visit - a highlight of Signature Theatre's national Kander & Ebb Celebration in the spring of 2008.

The Donmar Warehouse will stage a new production of Manuel Puig's 'Kiss Of the Spiderwoman' from April 25 to May 26, with previews running from April 19. Puig's dramatization of his own novel set in a Latin American prison places Marxist revolutionary Valentin Arregui in a cell with Luis Molina, a homosexual imprisoned for gross indecency with a minor, who takes his mind into a glamorous fantasy world he remembers from the movies, where the seductive spider woman dwells. Both powerful and touching, the play demonstrates the resilience of the human spirit in the midst of the greatest despair.

Broadway's Lost Treasures III, which will premiere on PBS on August 7th, will offer up a treasure trove of Tony Awards rarities from the past

Fred Ebb, passed away on September 11, 2004 at the age of 72 from a heart attack. Funeral services are expected to be held on Tuesday.
