Genevieve Bennett, creator of the 2008 Twin Cities Chekhov Festival and director of its sold-old production of The Seagull, has proved to be one of the Twin Cities most promising young directors.

The Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre, nationally known for its interpretation of Stephen Sondheim musicals, celebrates its 20th anniversary season by presenting Sondheim's most popular musical SWEENEY TODD, directed by Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. The new production runs in the 276-seat MAX Theater, February 9 through April 4, 2010.

Edelen will salute Angela Lansbury at the Signature Theatre's Sondheim Award Gala on April 12 at the Embassy of Italy. Director Rob Marshall has been hired by Disney to helm the next 'Pirates of the Carribean' film. Production on the film will begin in 2010, with the majority of shooting taking place in Hawaii. The film is slated for a 2011 release. Disney has already signed Johnny Depp to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Gareth Hale will play Scrooge in Susie McKenna and Steve Edis' adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, which is to open in the newly refurbished Arts Theatre in November this year. A Christmas Carol, produced by Tiny Tim Productions, will preview from 11 November, with the press performance on 25 November, and is booking until 10 January 2010.

Brian Stokes Mitchell visited The Today Show to sing a selection from his new CD/DVD 'Ring Christmas Bells.' Mitchell also discussed his 'Lights on Broadway With brian Stokes Mitchell' children's book, a benefit for The Actors Fund. Each book comes with a CD single of 'I was Here.'

John Cullum, Colman Domingo and more have been announced for the upcoming production of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS by the acclaimed Broadway composing team Kander and Ebb. The 2010 Sondheim Award Gala is chaired by C. Daniel and Juliann Clemente; Honorary Hosts include actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bernadette Peters, philanthropists Helen Henderson and Ted and Mary Jo Shen, and Congressman James Moran and LuAnn Bennett. The Sondheim Award Gala will benefit Signature Theatre's artistic, education, and community outreach programs.
