On September 22, 2009, Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter, Jon Secada returns to his roots (no, not his Latin roots, his Jazz roots) with the release of Expressions: The Jazz Album (The Orchard), which will coincide with the kick-off of a week-long engagement at Feinstein's at Loews Regency in New York, a national PBS television special with Jim Brickman (Beautiful World) and, his fourth season starring on Latin American Idol.

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the world premiere of Sammy, a new musical based on the life of Sammy Davis, Jr. with book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, and additional songs by Bricusse and Anthony Newley. Directed by Keith Glover with choreography by Keith Young and music supervision by Ian Fraser, Sammy will run in the Old Globe Theatre Sept. 19 - Nov. 8. Previews run from Sept. 19 - Oct. 1. Opening night is Oct. 2 at 8:00 p.m.

The Canadian Press reports that theatre impresario Garth Drabinsky has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a massive fraud, while his partner Myron Gottlieb has been sentenced to six years.

The Financial Post is reporting that former Livent theatre producers Garth Drabinsky and his business partner Myron Gottlieb will likely be granted bail while pending an appeal of their verdict and sentence, which will be announced tomorrow, August 5th. It is thought the pair will spend no more than a few hours in custody, should they be sentenced to a prison term.
